Daniel Goldenberg Obituary

Daniel "Danny" Goldenberg passed away just weeks shy of his 91st birthday at Aegis of Carmichael. Preceded in death by his brother Leo and the love of his life Edna, with whom he shared 47 years of a marriage filled with love, laughter, hard work and togetherness. Danny is survived by sister-in-law Lillian Goldenberg, nieces Miriam Harrison (Max), Eve Holloway (Allan), Roberta Sparks (Pam) nephew Norman Goldenberg and many other relatives and cherished long-term friends from near and far. Born in the Bronx, NYC, Danny was the second son of Russian immigrants, Israel and Rebecca Goldenberg. He proudly served in the Navy during WWII and enjoyed recounting stories of his time spent on the USS Kula Gulf in the Pacific. During the early sixties, Danny set his sights on California, and with the help of seed money from his brother Leo, he was able to start a small fabric business. Danny never did lose his Bronx accent or his outgoing, rough around the edges New York personality, and maybe it was just those "opposites attract" qualities that made Edna - all sweet and sassy, classy southern Texas belle - a perfect match for him. Gold was struck when Edna became not only Danny's wife but his business partner as well. One of his proudest achievements, aside from his marriage, was their chain "The Yardage Shop" stores throughout the state of California. The fabric business was in their DNA and both Danny and Edna worked together into their early 70s. Upon retirement in 1998 the Goldenbergs moved to the active senior community of Springfield in Rocklin, where they happily lived for 16 years. Their final home was at Aegis where they enjoyed life's simple pleasures - sitting in the beautiful garden, going for a stroll, listening to music in the lounge, and oh! how they loved to dance. After Edna passed away in late January, Danny carried on, spending his days reading the newspaper, playing bingo, going for walks, resting in the garden and sipping brandy in the evening. But the death of one's beloved, particularly one whose life was as intertwined as Danny's was with Edna's, is the hardest time of all. His ashes will be interred privately in Tyler, TX where he will once again be reunited with his "Poopsie". Donations may be made to any Veterans organization of your choice in honor of Danny's memory.

A delightful man from the great generation of World War II veterans who served our country patriotically and proudly, and then came home quietly to begin living a good and honorable life.

I am blessed to have known Mr. Goldenberg and his departed lovely wife Edna.

What a wonderful couple they were with all their contrasts - one-of-a-kin characters and vocal accents, one an obvious native New Yorker and the other a charming Texan southern belle. Always looked forward to my time with them.

Thank you for your service to our country Mr. Goldenberg. May perpetual light shine upon your soul and may your soul and the souls of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in eternal peace, Amen.
