David Lotto Obituary

David John Lotto died peacefully at home on January 15, 2014. He was 67 years old. David was passionate in his pursuits of hairdressing, psychology, and fine art photography. He owned and operated two salons in Sacramento, both named Davidjohn For Hair after learning the finer points of haircutting with the Vidal Sassoon school. He traveled extensively with the school, doing stage work in Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris. He obtained his AS from Sacramento City College, and then went on to obtain a BS in psychology from Sacramento State University, California. His work included addiction counseling at the Effort, and the Sacramento Children's Home Society counseling troubled youth. His latest passion was fine art photography. His work has been in galleries in the US and Europe. He owned Platinum West Gallery in Midtown. He loved black and the white media of silver, platinum, and then finally collodion wet-plate on glass and metal plates. David was an inspired person who had a keen skill for inspiring and bringing out talent in others. He was known for his great advice, wicked sense of humor, and impeccable style. He was preceded in death recently by his sisters Dolores and Madeline. He leaves siblings Grant, Gaylel, and wife Lalanya. Friends are invited to a Celebration of David's Life will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, at 2pm at B'Nai Israel Temple, 3600 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95818. Ten years late. I´ve been out of touch with David for years but I have never stopped thinking about him. So sorry I didn´t stay in touch. I loved this guy! He took me under his wing and mentored me for several years at his Solon. He was a brilliant talent. I will forever think of him and miss him so very much. A part of my heart is gone and can´t be replaced. Rest in peace David

Glad to be reminded "not to forget!" Truthfully, David was someone you couldn't forget, even if he only just walked by...

David was one of the first people to believe in me when I got out of hairdressing school. I haven't seen him in years but think of him often. I decided to look him up and learned of his passing. I'm stunned! Rest in peace my man. Love to you still.

David was one of life's most interesting characters. I was happy to be a client and learn about his passion for photography and the beauty in nature. His pursuit and achievement of excellence in all areas was obvious. Thank you for identifying a charity of the family's choice; I bet it was his, too. He'll be missed. God's blessings on David and his loved ones.
