Iris Theresa SIMS

1930 - 2016

October 27, 2016 Iris Theresa Sims was born on August 14, 1930 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her parents, Philip and Irene Charles, moved their family to Sacramento, CA in 1942. Their family settled in the Oak Park area. Iris passed away October 27, 2016, in Sacramento at 86 years young. She was preceded in death by her parents Philip Francis, Sr. and Irene Dorothy Charles, her brother Philip, sister Kathryn (Lee), sister-in-law Ida Mae Charles and grandson Michael Kevin Sims, Jr. She is survived by her loving children Oliver "Butch," Andre, Robyn, Michael, Brian, Lydia, Martin and Meredith; children-in-law: Juanita, Sahaja, Sharon, Heather, Mark (Higgins) and Gary (Maryland). She was adored and will be missed by her cherished grandchildren Stephen, Savannah, Sydney, Kiera and Kamden. She leaves behind in loving memory her brothers Raymond and Donald Charles, brother-in-law Dr. William H. Lee, sister-in-law Claudia Charles, and Aunt Patricia Fontenette. She will always be remembered by her cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Lin and his medical team at UC Davis, the UC Davis Alzheimer's Clinic, Iris' homecare providers, and the staff at Capital Transitional Care who all attended to Iris' advocacy. There will be a private memorial and burial service for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northern California.
