William VICKERS Obituary



VICKERS, William ''Bill''
Born in Fall River, MA March 16, 1923. Passed away June 3, 2010. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Madeline, and two sons, Thomas (wife Pam) and Robert (wife Doris). Bill was dearly loved by his family and will be deeply missed. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, switched to the Army Air Force after the war, and retired in 1964. His military travels had taken him to Africa, Italy, Germany, Austria, Okinawa, Japan, Labrador, and numerous locations in the USA. Bill entered the Civil Service in 1965 at McClellan Air Force Base where be worked on a wide variety of radar systems, serving as Equipment Specialist he managed the AN/TPS 43 mobile radar system that was deployed worldwide, until he retired in 1985. He loved his 38 ft Tollycraft powerboat and spent many happy days cruising the Delta until losing his vision several years ago. He was a proud member of Ben Ali Shrine Temple serving as Commander of the Legion of Honor in 1974, Commodore of Ben Ali Shrine Yacht club in 1988, and was a member of Activities. He was Commodore of the Marina West Yacht Club of Stockton in 1993. Past Director in District 19, 1.O.B.G. He was a member of Narragansett Lodge, AF. & A.M, Sacramento Scottish Rite, and BPOE 1160, Coos Bay, OR. No services are planted per his request. Remembrances in Bill's name may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2425 Stockton Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95817. Arrangements by Lind Brothers Funeral Home.

Bill was the best Equipment Specialist ever at McClellan, always willing to help when possible. He will be missed - condolences to the family.

We will all miss Bill as he was a great supporter of the Shrine Yacht Club and Ben Ali Shrine. He was one of the best.
