Maria Escobar Obituary
Maria was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Salao, Faial Azores, Portugal, and had been a resident of Monterey County for over 60-years. She enjoyed camping at Avila beach, attending Portuguese festa, making her famous sweet bread, gardening and canning fruit from her yard. And especially spending time with her family and dogs. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her children; Mary (John) Santos, of Santa Clara, Joe Escobar of Greenfield, Manuel Jr. (Vicky) Escobar of Salinas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Santos (Thomas Rubi), John (Heather) Santos, Jason (Stephanie) Santos, Kristen Santos; great-grandchildren, Alexander Rubi, Amalia Santos, William Rubi, Maxwell Rubi, Matias Santos, and baby boy Santos arriving in February.
She is preceded in death by husband, Manuel C. Escobar; parents, Rosa Ventura Freitas and John de Rosa Mendoza; brother, Salvador Mendonca; sister, Maria Mendonca.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Greenfield. A rosary will be held immediately afterward, starting at 1 pm, with funeral mass to follow at 2 p.m.
Burial will be held at Greenfield Cemetery.
