William Lunsford Obituary
KANNAPOLIS - Mr. William "Bill" James Lunsford, 68, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast, Concord, following a short illness.
He was born March 17, 1943, in Rowan County, (Enochville Community), a son of the late Lewis Barton Lunsford and Ruby Pearl Hanley Lunsford. Bill was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church and a member of the Pete Allen Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former president of the Y's Men Club of South Rowan.
Bill was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed golfing and was a former sports coach for the South Rowan YMCA.
He retired from Plant 1 of Cannon Mills as a manager with 39 years of service. He was a member of Cannon Memorial Lodge 626 AF&AM and was a former member of the Scottish Rite.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Lunsford.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joyce Goodnight Lunsford of the home; son Patrick (Nicki) Lunsford of Monroe; daughter Angela (Billy) Joyce of Concord; two sisters, Elaine Benfield of China Grove and Joyce (Merle) Bonds of Kannapolis. He is also survived by two grandsons, Cameron and Heath.
Service and Visitation: Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Bethpage United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jeff Coppley and Rev. Duane Melton. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Cannon Lodge 626. The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Memorials: May be made to Bethpage United Methodist Church, 109 Fellowship Drive, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
