Gilda Gandre Obituary

1947 ~ 2012
Gilda Ann Gandre passed away April 10, 2012, in Sandy, Utah, surrounded by family after a courageous five year battle with Parkinson's disease. Gilda was born May 8, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lain and Donna Bytendorp. She was the second of nine children and quickly demonstrated an immense caring nature for all. Gilda graduated from Granite High School in 1965, during her schooling she was a model student as she never stopped learning and taking on any challenge up until she passed away. She met Terry Lee Gandre by chance and they married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 22, 1968, they just celebrated their 44th anniversary. Gilda graduated from Stevens Henager's in Business Administration and then Hollywood Beauty School in cosmetology. She quickly had a large following allowing her to have a salon in her home. It created an environment in where she was able to be creative and care for her family. On December 4, 1980 she received the greatest calling possible for this earthly life. She became a mother to one of God's angels. She tackled this blessing with great determination, tears, success and unconditional love. Frustrated with obtaining services for him, she went back to college and obtained a degree in Special Education from the University of Utah. She was determined to make a better life and help other mothers who too received this blessing. She taught as a special education teacher for 15 years in Granite School District, she touched so many people's lives and she loved each and every one "her kids". Gilda would often be caught working into the early hours of the morning preparing for class and was deeply saddened when Parkinson's forced her to stop teaching. Gilda had a wonderful testimony and she loved the gospel. She enjoyed serving others and did not like being the center of attention. There was nothing that she couldn't do if she put her mind to it. Camping, oil painting, sculpting, upholstering furniture, sewing, cooking to name just a few. She was fearless, whether it was river rafting, roller blading or capturing scorpions for a science project, she always did everything with a 150% effort. She loved kisses mostly of the Hershey kind. She has faith that her family will once again wrap their arms around her again. She is now in heavens paradise.
Gilda is survived by her husband Terry, her children Lynnette (Tibby) Perez, Chuck (Amy), Paul (Tricia), Cindy (Darrell) Magee, and Mark. Her grandchildren Nico, Kameron, Gavin, Kylee, Adrianna, Sean, Trey, Alexandria, and Donovan. Her father Lain Bytendorp, brothers, sisters, and many other family and friends who loved her. She is preceded in death by her mother Donna Taylor Bytendorp.
Per mom's wishes private graveside services will be held, Saturday, April 14th. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012 1 p.m. at the Telford Ward House located at 1834 East Creek Road (7995 South), Sandy Utah. Please bring a shared memory of Gilda and school supplies; she would say teachers never have enough. Please send an email to [email protected] if you would like more information.
Gilda loved learning and she loved being a teacher. She felt education was so important; in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Gilda's Special Needs School Supply fund. Please mail to PO Box 26391, Salt Lake City, Utah 84126 or deposit at any Cyprus Credit Union under that name.

How do you say good bye to the most infuential person in your life. I wish I had more time to spend with you. I wish you never got that horrible disease that took away your abilities to be yourself and do all the wonderful things you did. I can sit hear and say all of these" I wishes" but life is not what could have been. I love you mom for EVERYTHING that you are. You make the bar high for all mothers and I strive to be half the mother you were. I will miss you so much.

I wanted to say so much more to you that night. I kept telling myself to be strong, but I couldn't. I'd look at your beautiful eyes and start crying, I didn't want you to see me cry, but I should have and have told you that you are perfect to me. I remember when I delivered Nico how my heart had changed, that I now knew what kind of love a mother has. What kind of love that you had for me. I told you then that I finally understood how deep that love is. Many times I have thought that I'd go before you because you were such a strong woman. I have told many people that if I can accomplish 1/10th of what you have in my life, I would have made a difference. Tibby reminds me often that I have lots to work on to be as wonderful as his “mom”. He does it in a loving way but he is right. I do. Tibby loves you so very much. And for that I can't thank you enough. I'd don't know what I am going to do now that I can't call you to ask how to boil water, or when I can't hear your laugh. However I am going to try to be strong, going to try to be more like you with the exception of the cooking part. Its a lost cause. I love you mom. I truly love you. Nette

I loved my association with Gilda when I lived in the Telford Ward years ago. She was always a great example to me. I send my love to her family at their loss but celebrate her graduation which she so richly deserved.

Gilda was the first teacher I worked with at Hartvigsen and when they told us of her passing, I was so sad. She was such a neat lady with a sweet spirit and helped me to understand more about children with special needs. Thank you Gilda for your guidance and support, you are an inspiration to me. You will be missed!

I shared a beautiful moment with my sister, Gilda, just hours before her passing, that I will never forget. I hope she found peace in hearing the video and song that I shared with her. Her incredible example has truly impacted my life impacted my life forever. I hope all of her family and she know how much her life has meant to me and how much I love her.

All my love, Aunt Carla

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Gilda. Though I only met her once, I have heard so many wonderful things about her from my sister Shelly Bytendorp. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I pray that the Lord will give comfort, peace, and love to you all.
With much love
