I'm so sorry to hear about Kenvin's passing.The last time I saw him was 1988.My Father and I went back to visit his Father for the last time.Ross and I had caught some fish, Kenvin took us out to gather some wild veggies and herbs.We cooked a wonderful meal that was truly one of the highlights of my stay.I haven't seen him since,but will always remember the great time we had.The Utah Kid will live on in my memory forever. My love goes out to his Family.

I loved Kenvin's Album. It is still one of my favorite. I don't know if it was because I was probably around 7 years old when it came out, but the unique quality of that music has stayed with me all these years. I am so glad I managed to thank him for making it a few months ago and get the story of the inspiration for one of the songs. Thanks, Kenvin. . .

Sophie, I am so sorry for your Loss. I had no idea until Today. Kenvin and You have been delighful neighbors for the nearly 2 years that I've lived next door, to You guys.
And, to Kenvin, I will continue to Be of help however I can: be it trimming the deadwood, snowblowing your sidewalk and drive, or for anything that helps to make Life a little easier for Sophie.
I wish that I had met You years before. Your Seasoned Life, Talent, and Experiences is one of the things that I like about You.

When I heard the news of Kenvin's accident on Friday, Jan. 21, the first thing I planned was to get to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and light a candle for his complete recovery. Jan. 23rd was a freezing but bright and sunny New York Sunday and I arrived in time for Vespers.
As I was writing my wish for Kenvin on the votive glass, a wonderful custom and the Cathedral even lends you a Sharpie to do so, the Choir was singing, the organ was playing.
After placing the tall Votive in the candle rack, I sat in the back and just took it all in. And then it happened:
The late afteroon sun was beaming through the huge, southern Cathedral stained-glass windows and as I looked up at the ceiling of this incredible edifice - there was the most amazing Light Show going on. The stone ceiling and pillars were twinkling and moving and sparking with colored lights, a veritable kaleidoscope.
Never mind just a Light Show, this was a Sound and Light Show. Kenvin Lyman would have loved it.
I found the Evite for the November, 2008 fabulous reunion party that Sofia organized for him and his musician pals. When I spoke to her on Sunday, 2/6, I was able to tell her that I remembered that fabulous Red Satin Shirt she had made for him for the event. And she remembered his big Cowboy Hat and we laughed through the tears.
And Jay - I just found the rolodex card for The Dazzland Studios on Edison - 801/355-8555. I would often love to come by and see the latest art when I lived in SLC in the 80's.
By the way, the theme for that special event, The Utah Kid's party, was "It's a Wrap." Well, Kenvin Lyman, it's a Wrap for a Life Well Lived and we are giving you a Standing Ovation.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Kenvin's unexpected passing. He gave us all lesson's in creativity, kindness and passion. Thanks for sharing your joy with all of us Kenvin!

I wanted to express my condolences of the loss of Kenvin. I met him a few years ago at his house to buy some prints. He was a great host to my daughter and me and regaled us with stories from his past. He was so humble about the HUGE impact that he made on the world art scene.

Whenever we spoke, you taught me something new, even if the something was old. Especially, maybe. Appreciation for food, for the history of digital media, for light. Our common heritage. For proven ways of doing and being. Sometimes, when I do a thing just so, I smile and think, that was a little like the way Kenvin might do it. In this way I practice, and remember you.

I've never met a more open, giving, creative individual. He was just at home behind the computer, strumming his guitar, or entertaining a group of friends. He always had time to ask you how you were... and he meant it. We made a date to get together...but his accident took him before we could catch up. I hurt, like all those that knew and loved Kenvin. I will miss you Kenvin. We'll catch up later!

This was a huge shock and I loved Kenvin. He was the Koolest Dude in high school, with his dress, personality, cars(The Reo Flying Cloud), this car was awesome. Kenvin was always drawing things on anything, text books, library books, his jeans, whatever. He was one of the most talented, artisitic person I have ever known! He was his Own man, eccentric sometimes, but his mind was always thinking, so most people couldn'et keep up with him. Eccentric is not the word, but this is"he was abstract in ways that he only knew. He was very intelligent, and he always had my respect. When we reunited after 40 years, we were face-booking. We had alot to talk about, that we were both interested in. We were on the same page with politcs, environment, our government who failed us small business people, and others. We had some major talks about all. He was enlightening to me alway!s Special thoughts & Deepest Sympathy to all family. memebrs,Especially to my closest friends, Brent, Jennie& Ron Alvey. May the wingd be at your back always ! He was my distant cousin, one who was older than me and I looked up to him when I was young working on a small farm in Payson, Utah. I hadn’t seen him since we were young—yet he lived only a few blocks away.
We arrived at the classic Avenues home, and I remembered immediately Kenvin’s great smile and that certain glint in his eyes when he answered the door. He wore oversized “Harry Potter” glasses and a well worn comfortable shirt and jeans that also looked like they had reached the stage where they were as soft as pajamas. He introduced Sophia, his wife; she also had an infectious smile and charm and you got the feeling they were like complimentary bookends.
The table was set in the garden behind his home with his new project visible on the hill above. It was a vineyard and he intended to produce his own wine (he tried to talk me into putting a vineyard in our backyard as well). According to my calculations a vineyard would never make it in this cold climate. Dinner was served on mismatched china; the food was simple yet amazingly good. He made wonderful home made pesto using a mortar & pestle, grinding the ingredients while he declared that Utah cripples the restaurant industry with liquor laws that inhibit wine selection. We laughed, drank wonderful wine, and became reacquainted again.
“The problem with most things in the world is we throw them away before they have achieved their potential patina” he said. I got a tour of the items around his home that had survived long enough to have attained this goal—the wood grain on the shed, the very old stove in the kitchen, and the overall classic condition of his home.
The conversation turned to art (Kenvin is an accomplished artist). In one of the early chapters of Kenvin’s life he and a partner founded “Rainbow Jam”. This was a production company that provided light shows to rock bands in the 60’s. He told us about the bands and the 60’s vibe at the time. Kenvin has rubbed shoulders with many of the iconic bands of that era, like Led Zepplin and the Grateful Dead.
As dusk approached and the wine still flowed, we discussed music, which then lead to Kenvin playing a few of his songs and putting on a small light show from the original 1960’s equipment.
Kenvin and Sophia were fabulous hosts for a wonderful evening worth remembering. We have enjoyed their company on other occasions whenever we could find the time to get together and pull a cork from a bottle of wine.
We talked recently about getting together again, but sadly that will never happen. I had so many more questions to ask, more songs of his to hear, and I wanted to sample the wine from the unlikely Salt Lake City vineyard.
I am writing these words on the day Kenvin Lyman died. Although I am saddened at his passing, I am grateful we began a renewed friendship. He is somebody that put a wonderful “patina” on life and enhanced the lives of those around him. We will miss him greatly.

I am so sorry to hear of Kenvin's pass away. I met him on my holiday vacation in Salt Lake City last year. He was someone, who inspired everyone in touch with him.
Probably He is somewhere in a better place now.

Dear Lyman Family,
I have had the good fortune to know Kenvin since 1978 when he worked in his studio on Edison Street. He was always friendly, funny and the best neighbor one would hope to have. He understood mankind and was one of those marvelous souls that makes a difference on this earth. He was always kind, considerate and extremely talented with his art. I have been blessed by his friendship for all these years and will miss him terribly.

Kenvin was a great guy and I have many fond memories with Kenvin at the Hansen Planetarium and at Neil Passey's home on the Aves.
It was great to reconnect with Kenvin after all that time had passed. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he has touched!

Wow I'm not sure what to say. Totally shocked to hear this news. Kenvin was one in a million, so talented and easy to be with. My best memories are from a week long river trip we took years ago thru Desolation and Grey canyons on the Green river. There were only three of us, Kenvin, Ron Auth and myself. We had an amazing time, made even more special with Kenvin's great culinary skills. I just wish he and Sofia had gone with us last September. Good luck on the other side my brother. You'll be missed.
