LaMar Anderson Obituary

LaMar Marvin Anderson
1933 - 2019
Salt Lake City, UT-LaMar Marvin Anderson passed away in Salt Lake City on March 10, 2019 after a short illness. He was born on December 5, 1933, in Salt Lake City, to Victor Anderson of Salt Lake City, and Edith May Taylor of Bingham, Utah. LaMar was the third of four sons.

LaMar was educated and intelligent. He graduated from South High School in 1952. He subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in science from the University of Utah in 1956, and returned there to earn a master's degree in science in 1964.

LaMar was a well-respected science teacher who was willing to have some fun in the classroom (both with chemistry experiments and practical jokes!). If you had him as an instructor, it was unlikely you'd ever forget it. He taught at a Catholic school in Santa Barbara, California, and at Logan High School in Logan, Utah for a number of years.

LaMar also served in the U.S. Army for a brief period.

LaMar loved both of his parents, and was especially close to his mother. He admired her work ethic and lovingly cared for her in her later years.

Until a few years ago, he split time living between Salt Lake City and Mesa, Arizona. He enjoyed the warmth of Mesa and taking excursions with his friends there.

LaMar was thoughtful and careful by nature. He was very organized and kept meticulous records. He had an eye for fine furnishings and detail, and was quick to give a compliment. He appreciated hard work and the accomplishments that follow, and was very proud of his nephews and nieces.

LaMar spent his retirement studying, enjoying friends and family (including weekly Scrabble games with his younger brother, Danny) and staying physically active. He also served as a tour guide at the Church Office Building and Conference Center in Salt Lake City. He had faith in Jesus Christ and His gospel.

LaMar is proceeded in death by his parents; older brother Douglas D. Anderson; and older brother Alvin R. Anderson, along with Alvin's wife, Maxine Leigh, and their daughter, Savannah Anderson.

LaMar is survived by his younger brother, Daniel L. Anderson, Daniel's wife, Marcia Anderson, and their five children and their spouses and families, along with his sister-in-law Arlene Anderson.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Russon Mortuary located at 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. that same morning at the mortuary. Interment will follow the funeral services at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Lamar, I will miss your genuine kindness at Dan and Marcia's family events. You had a way of making people feel comfortable. As I was reading the memories, I have gained an even stronger respect for who you are and the love you had for everyone! You remind me of two of my favorite teachers from High School. You and your brother Dan are much a like, always having fun and seeing the best in all people and every situation. I am sure you are having a great reunion with your loved ones. Till we meet again Lamar!

Mr. Anderson was one of the best teachers I ever had. He made chemistry so much fun. Mr. Anderson had a heart of Au (aka gold). Yes, I still remember the periodic table almost 40 years later because of him.

Mr. Anderson was my chemistry teacher at Logan high school and taught me lessons and techniques that I used alll through college and medical school. He was definitely one of my most influential teachers, and I still think of him with gratitude and a smile regularly! Condolences to the family and thanks to an amazing teacher!Scott Thompson

To the family and friends, my heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring. And may your precious memories of your dear loved one fill your heart with love and comfort today, tomorrow and always.

I am sorry for your loss. Just two years ago, forty years after graduating from Logan High School, as I was working to get my teaching certificate and math endorsement, I had to take a big math test. I used the dimensional analysis technique that he taught me so many times while taking the test, that I finally wrote, "Thank you Mr. Anderson" on my scratch paper. Whenever I teach it to my students I tell them that it was my high school chemistry teacher that taught it to me. I will always remember him.

I extend my condolences on the passing of this wonderful man. Mr Anderson was one of my favorite teachers. He was very funny but I think there was a purpose to it to help us remember what he was teaching. A favorite memory was when one of the young women in class got him to remove his hair piece. He laughed along with the rest of us.

One of the greatest educators I was blessed to have during my public education. He expected much but gave that much more making difficult subjects fun! Always positive, always entertaining. I owe much to him as well as other stellar Logan High teachers of that era.
Condolences to his family for their loss. He was a beloved teacher who positively impacted and inspired many, many lives.

What a wonderful long life your loved one had, Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. Special mightiness indeed. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.
