Linda Baum Obituary

Linda Rae Sawyers Baum

July 4, 1932 ~ July 17, 2021

Linda Rae Sawyers Baum, a woman of faith and honor, peacefully passed through the veil on July 17, 2021, in Draper, Utah.

Linda was the 7th of 8 children born to William Mack Sawyers and Jennis Irene Miller. She was born on July 4, 1932, in a log cabin in Joseph, Utah. Being born on Independence Day, as a child she thought that the parades and fireworks were for her birthday.

Linda graduated from Tooele High School in 1950. Later, she attended Brigham Young University where she was courted by H. Lowell Baum. They solemnized their marriage in the Manti Temple on October 22, 1954. After Lowell finished his military service, he and Linda built their first home together in Provo, Utah. They had four children: Dirk (Daphne), Paul (Amy), Shannon Fowler (Doug), and Michael (Diane).

She received a teaching degree from BYU and taught first grade for 20 years for Alpine School District and for Jordan School District. While teaching, she completed a Master's Degree in Education from Utah State University.

Linda faithfully served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, particularly in the Primary and Young Women's programs. In 1998, Lowell and Linda served an 18-month mission Melbourne, Australia, where they made several life-long friends.

Linda loved to read. In fact, even after she developed macular degeneration, she continued to read and listen to several books a month. She also loved to travel. She and Lowell traveled to at least 38 countries in every continent and to every state in the U.S. Most of all, Linda loved being a grandmother to 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and by her dear sister, Betty Lorenz of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will take place Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10:00 am at the South Mountain 7th Ward, 272 E. Traverse Point Rd, Draper. I will always remember Linda as being the sweetest aunt with her beautiful smile. She always seemed happy to see us when we would visit and she made the effort to support us in our big family moments like weddings of us and our children. It was always nice to get a visit from Linda and Lowell. I will dearly miss her! Sending love to the whole family.
