Maxine Hanks Obituary

1922 ~ 2012
Maxine Walker Hanks passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2012. She was 90 years young. Maxine was born to Walter and Irma Walker in Red Mesa, Colorado. She graduated from Provo High School and attended 'the BY' in Provo, Utah, where she met Lincoln Hanks through the ski club. Lincoln and Maxine were married in the Mesa, Arizona Temple in 1948. They raised their four daughters in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Maxine was a faithful member of the LDS church where she served diligently.
She touched the lives of many through her volunteer work with the PTA, 4-H, youth sports, and sewing costumes for dance and church groups. Maxine enjoyed her association with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, book clubs, ski clubs, golf, tennis and bowling leagues. She ran her own company for the past 30 years.
Our amazing Mother and Grandmother appreciated the beauty in the world around her and loved to share it with us. She did everything in her power to open up the world for us. Maxine wanted to do all and see all (as long as it didn't include swimming or horses.) She had a sense of adventure and loved to travel the globe with her family and friends.
She kept her mind sharp through reading (best library patron ever), crossword puzzles and Scrabble. We enjoyed countless game nights around her kitchen table. Her wit and humor kept us laughing. Maxine was head cheerleader for all her grandchildren and she always had an encouraging word and smile for everyone. We're smiling back at you Mom.
Maxine is survived by her children, Vicky (Stephen) Westlund, Diana Lambert, Karen (John) Freed, Denice (Michael) Hatch; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Boyd Walker and Clarice Reese. Preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Sherman Walker, Keith Walker and Norma Parker; and husband, Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00am at the East Mill Creek Stake Center, 3103 East Craig Drive (3600 South), where friends and family can visit 9:30-10:30am prior to the service. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
Services under the care of Holbrook Mortuary.

Dear Maxine's daughters: We knew your mom when we were taking care of Charley and Irma before they died. We had a great relationship with your mom during that time. She was so happy and thoughtful. We loved our association with the Dean and Walker Family. The gospel is wonderful as it provides us the tools and knowledge to know we will see our loved ones again. Your mom is a wonderful woman.

Karen,
Sorry to hear of your mothers passing. She was always so sweet. I remember spending many hours at your home(makeing "bloat" brownies) and she was always so kind to me. Why she ever let us drive her cars I will never know!
May you have peace knowing you will she her again.

Dear Steve, Vickie, and Family. What a great lady, and a life well lived. When I was called to be High Priest Group Leader, Bishop Bettinson advised me that if I was ever discouraged, I should just go see Maxine, and she would cheer me up. Short time later I went to visit her in the hospital (broken arm, as I recall) and sure enough I came away more cheerful, refreshed, and the better for it. What a delightful saint she is. She was one of the greatest blessings I received from belonging to the 6th ward. I love the influence Maxine had on us all. I treasure knowing her and your family. Love you guys...Brother Ron

To Maxine's four beautiful daughters:
As you remember, ever since you girls were growing up, your mother and I have been friends and also neighbors at two different locations. Maxine is a jewel, and our association has been a privilege and blessing for me. Her courage and strength of character are a worthy example for us all. My thoughts are with you and your families at this tender time.
Love, Gloria xoxo

Dear Girls, It was sad to hear of my Auntie Maxine's passing. She always was so kind to our family. Dad often spoke to me about the time she spent with him growing up and in Moab. He would get so animated as he spoke of her pending visits. We will see you at the funeral, Love Keith Jr. & Linda Walker
