Michael Sinks Obituary

Sinks, Michael Gordon; 74; passed away August 7, 2014. Mickey was born on September 14, 1939, to Geneva and Robert Sinks, in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Cooley High School in 1957, where he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. Mickey went on to attend and play baseball at Michigan State University. He graduated from MSU in 1961 and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and played with the organization for 5 years. Mickey began his teaching and coaching career in the Oak Park School District in 1966. He taught physical education and math while coaching baseball, football, and basketball. He was hired by the Brandon School District, Ortonville, in 1974, where he continued coaching, teaching, and also worked as Athletic Director for a few years before retiring in 1998. Mickey and his wife, Brooke moved to Oscoda, Michigan in the year 2000. He never stopped coaching or mentoring during retirement as he took many opportunities in the surrounding area to help local coaches, teams, and athletes. He also spent his time wood working, taking care of his lawn, feeding the deer, doing jigsaw, and Sudoku puzzles. Mickey was proceeded in death by his first wife, Sheila Hooker; and survived by his second wife, Brooke; son, Steven (June); daughter, Suzanne (Craig Taylor); step-son, Tom Stokes (Kim), Matt Stokes (Chris); and nine grandchildren, Ryan, Levi, Sheila, Jessica, Rebecca, Thomas, Anna, Tori, and Matthew. Donations in memory of Mickey can be made payable to the Brandon or Goodrich High School Athletic Departments and mailed in care of Suzanne Taylor, 10352 Hegel Road, Goodrich, Michigan 48438.
