Robert Prout Obituary

Robert G. (Bob) Prout "Laughter and Unconditional Love" SUNSET - Robert Gladding Prout, 92, had a joyful reunion with his sweetheart and daughters Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Davis Hospital and Medical Center. He was born April 16, 1914 in Ogden, Utah to William Benton and Edith Haigh Prout. He was the fourth of five children. He married his eternal sweetheart, Rachel Denning, August 14, 1937. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They had six children. Rachel passed away September 22, 1994. Bob graduated from Ogden High School in 1931. He completed two years at Weber Junior College, attended Utah State Agricultural College (USU) and served a year internship in Botany at University of CA at Berkley. He began his teaching career in 1946 at Mound Fort Junior High School. He taught seventh and ninth grade Math and Science until 1964 when he embarked upon a new career with the State of Utah. He began working at the Ogden Employment Security Office in the fall of 1964 retiring December, 1977. Bob was a high priest and faithful member of the LDS Church. He and his wife held many positions over the years. Forever the botanist, Bob's yard was his pride and joy. He could tell you the genus and species of almost every plant there and everywhere he went. His green thumb was evident in the size and beauty of his roses as well as the other beautiful flowers in his yard. He also loved watching birds. He invited many to share his yard by feeding them year round. Bob had an irresistible sense of humor. He was funny and fun loving. He shared stories, jokes, quips, quotes, and limericks with family and friends alike. He taught us the true meaning of unconditional love and gave us the gift of laughter. He will always be our sweet Grampy. He is survived by three sons and one daughter, James R. (Jim) (Barbara) Prout, Salt Lake City, Steven C. (Joyce) Prout, Clinton, Jon C. Prout, Sunset, Susan (Bruce) Bayne, Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Donald G. (Agnes) Prout, Santa Maria, CA. His parents; wife; two daughters, Patricia R. Fryer, and Karlyn Prout; sister, Dorothy Radle Pettigrew; brothers, Curtis and Maurice Prout; and daughter-in-law, Lani A. Prout, preceded Bob in death. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at the Ogden City Cemetery. Friends and family may call Monday, March 26, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W. Dear Anthony, Chelle, Jon and family members,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time for your deep loss. Your grandfather and your dad lived a wonderfully long life and you were able to share that time with him. What a great blessing! We hope that you'll remember all the good times and know that you'll see him again.
