David J. "Buddy" Michelson of Lockhart, TX died Saturday, May 29, 2004. Buddy was born December 25, 1927 in Gonzales, TX to Yetta and Jacob Michelson, graduated from Gonzales High School in 1945 and the University of Texas in 1949. After continuing his family's involvement with Coca-Cola, a business spanning over 50 years, the Michelson family moved to Lockhart in 1978 where Buddy became President and Owner of Glosserman Chevrolet, Buick and Pontiac. In addition, Buddy was extremely active in both business and civic affairs including Advisory Director and Chairman of the Board, First Lockhart National Bank; Chairman of the Board, First National Bank of Gonzales; Chairman of the Board, Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital; President, Gonzales Rotary Club and Lockhart Kiwanis Club; Founding Member, Chisolm Trail Texas Exes Association; President, Dewitt-Gonzales-Lavaca County Texas Exes Association; a member of the Ben Hur Shrine and many other community and civic activities. Buddy's overall dedication of service to mankind culminated in his being awarded the Most Worthy Citizen of Lockhart in 1998. Buddy was also an avid University of Texas Longhorn fan and enjoyed the comradery of all Longhorn sporting events, especially football and basketball. He was a member of the Longhorn Foundation, a Big Wheel sponsor of the Longhorn Athletic Department and a lifetime member of the Texas Exes. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Yetta and Jacob Michelson; stepfather, Irving Forgotson and sister Laurile Block. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Abbi; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffry and Shelly of Lockhart; son, Jon of Chicago, IL; sister and brother-in-law, Samylu and Dr. Norman Rubin of Hallettsville; brother-in-law, Irvin Block of Houston. His family circle also included his in-laws, Marilyn and Michael Glosserman of Bethesda, MD, Debbi Glosserman of Cleveland, OH, Maschi and Stephen Kaplan of Elliott, ME, Glicka and Michael Kaplan of Portsmouth, NH; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. at McCurdy Funeral Home with Graveside Services at 4:00 P.M. at Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Austin Highway in San Antonio. Services will be officiated by Rabbi Barry Block and Rabbi Samuel Stahl of Temple Beth-El in San Antonio. Pallbearers will be Buddy's nephews, Dr. Jay Rubin, Dr. Howard Rubin, Dr. Paul Rubin, Marc Glosserman, Scott Glosserman, Jacob Kaplan and David Kaplan. Buddy's trademark smile and concern for others radiated throughout his positive approach to life. He was blessed with a vast number of dear friends and the family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers, especially Patsy and Pat Kirksey for going the extra mile. The family considers all of Buddy's friends and extended family as honorary pallbearers.
