Frederick Eugene Byargeon

1921 - 2017

Frederick E. Byargeon (CWO USAF Ret) went to be with the Lord on Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the age of 95. He was born in Oak Grove, LA, the 7th of 8 sons, to William and Hilda Byargeon. He was a modest man of great integrity, devoted to his family, church and country.

Fred entered the military in 1940, saw duty in Burma during WWII, and proudly continued service for 23 years, followed by an additional 15 years with the USAFSS as a civilian. Six Byargeon brothers served in WWII, and 2012, Fred had the pleasure and appreciation of visiting the WWII memorial with the Alamo Honor Flight. He was a founding member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, working on the building funds and planning. He is an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and active with Council 7323 for many years. Fred had the immense privilege to participate with the Knights during Pope John Paul II's visit to San Antonio and celebration of Mass in 1987.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all 7 brothers, his beloved wife of 60 years Katherine (Peggy), sons Frederick G. Byargeon and William Byargeon. He is survived by daughters Catherine Berardi, Teresa Schafer (Robert), son Michael Byargeon (Susan), 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Geraldine Byargeon of Oak Grove, LA, and Elsie Butler of Jasper, TX,

Services will be at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5919 Ingram Rd, on Wednesday, April 19, 2017: Visitation 9:30-10:30 am, rosary service 10:30 am, and funeral mass at 11:00 am, followed by a bereavement lunch provided by church members. Procession will depart for Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 pm for interment. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
