Julian Nava passed away July 31, 2004 in San Antonio after a long illness. Julian was born on June 16, 1916 in Falfurrias, TX. He is survived by his beloved sister-in-law, Emma Rodriguez; son, Joe D. Nava wife Anna, children Alex, Steve and Marianna; son, David Nava and wife Tisa; son, Gabriel Nava, wife Carol and children, Jay Edward and Magdalena Alicia; son, Joe C. Peña wife Marta, children Giselle and Marlena; daughter, Patricia L. Burrus and child Julianna Elia; sister, Consuelo Sanchez; sister-in-law, Mary Nava. Julian was preceded in death by his wife, Elia; son, Edward; brothers, Jesus and Pedro. "Jay" as he was known at the 433rd Tactical Air Wing ("Alamo Wing") at Kelly Air Force Base, was an Air Reserve Technician when he retired in June 1976. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and as a member of the 2nd Infantry Division, he hit Omaha Beach 10 hours after D-day was launched and his unit fought through Northern France, Luxemburg, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia where he earned the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and five campaign ribbons from World War II. Discharged after World War II, he later joined the Texas Army National Guard and then transferred to the Alamo Wing in 1952 as it was being formed. Julian was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector and a member of the Holy Name Society and the Cursillo Movement. Julian took care of the Rosary for all parish funerals and he, his wife Elia and his sister-in-law, Emma ran the Thrift Store at the church for many years. Julian was an outstanding example of a hardworking, loving and parish-oriented member of the Catholic Church who made volunteering a way of life. He believed the highest task someone could do was to be involved in service-oriented organizations. SERVICE Visitation for Julian will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd., where the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Julia took me in when she didn't have to. I am thankful and grateful that she had a heart of gold. I regret not making it back to San Antonio before her passing.
