Marlo Casanova Obituary
Marlo Yvette Casanova went back to the Lord on January 25th at the age of 36, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was a beautiful angel that was sent to us to inspire us and bring us joy. Her uncompromising faith in God and kindred spirit will be greatly missed and she will be in our hearts always. She left this world with tremendous grace and courage that set an example for us all. Marlo resided in Belgium for the last three and a half years, and that is where she passed away. Before she moved to Belgium, she lived in San Antonio, Texas where she was born and raised. She attended St. Luke's Catholic school, John Marshall HS (1987), and graduated from St. Mary's University in 1991. After college, Marlo went on to work for NCR until she was recruited by Iimak in 1996. She always dreamed of living abroad, and fulfilled that dream when she moved to Belgium with her employer. She traveled all over the world. She loved experiencing other cultures and was embraced by people wherever she traveled. She had such a great zest for life and lived it to the fullest, taking nothing for granted. She is a member of the Canary Islands Descendants Association. Marlo is preceded in death and rejoined with her brother Richard Charles Casanova, paternal grandfather Rudy C. Casanova, her maternal grandparents Gilberto and Delfina Aguirre. She is survived by her husband Cees A. van der Lelij, son Richard Charles Casanova-van der Lelij, step sons Tomas J.P. and Robbert K.S. van der Lelij, father Rudy F. Casanova, mother Delfina Aguirre-Anthony and husband Ronald, father and mother in-law Jan-Pieter and Sjoerd van der Lelij, sisters Deborah A. Casanova, Belinda D. Casanova, Ann Garcia, Melissa M. Fau and husband John, sister in laws Andrea J. Casanova, Gonnie van der Lelij and Ann Groniger. Nieces and nephews include Melinda Fau, Virginia Casanova, Wayne Fau, Nicholas Roberts, Matthew Casanova, Jacquelyne Casanova-Roell, Lauren Fau, Jacob Casanova-Roell, Erica Casanova-Roell and Gayle Fau. You are invited to share in a celebration of Marlo's life on earth and her new life in heaven. A mass and memorial service will take place at St. Luke's Catholic Church at 4603 Manitou, San Antonio, TX 78228, on Saturday, Feb 5th at 10:00am. Marlo has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her name to the Memorial and Honor Program of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
