Amy Sanders Obituary

SANDERS, AMY LOUISA Amy L. Sanders was born in Cord, Arkansas, on February 18, 1920, the daughter of Albert and Matilda Lewallen. Being raised by sharecropper parents meant often times being farmed out when times were tough. The experience of being passed around to live with her relatives made Amy very proud of and loyal to her family's "people." She was living with relatives in Phoenix , Arizona, when she met her future husband, E.C. "Doc" Sanders. Doc and Amy came to San Diego and raised their two children, here. Amy was determined to give her children the stable home she never had and soon after arriving in San Diego, she went to work in the burgeoning aircraft industry. Amy worked for Rohr, Stromberg / Carlson, General Dynamics and was an original employee of a new corporation named Science Application, now the giant SAIC. Amy was very proud of her work and extremely pleased to have made so many friends in the aircraft industry. Amy remained independent and self reliant until the very last; she was driving her own automobile and living by herself at the age of 88. "Doc" had preceded Amy, passing away in 2004. Amy will be missed by her daughter, Vicki J. Davis (Harold) of Portland, her son Charles E. Sanders (Linea) of San Diego, her three grand-children, Laura, Michael and Matthew Davis, and her great-grandchildren, Brian, Kayla, Kyle, Michael and David. There will be no services. The ashes of both "Doc" and Amy will be returned to Arkansas and a fitting repose, later this year.
