Evadale Gurney

GURNEY, EVADALE Sept. 10, 1921 to October 16, 2008 Evadale, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2008. She was married for 62 years to her beloved Wayne who preceded her in death. Born and raised on a farm in Farnhamville, Iowa, she graduated from AIB business college in Des Moines. At age 52, Evadale earned an AA degree in Early Childhood Development from San Diego City College and enjoyed a 13-year career as a top notch preschool teacher. Evadale treasured the many friends she made over the 65 years she lived in San Diego. Her church family at University Christian Church and Faith Presbyterian were very important to her. Evadale loved to sing for her entire life. Singing in a barbershop quartet with husband Wayne and best friends brought her great joy. Above all else , Evadale was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by daughters Deanna Solomonsen (Pete, deceased), Lou Ann Gurney (Mark Harding), grand-daughters Julie Mills (Jerry) and Traci lliff (Steve) and six great-grandchildren. A Service will be held October 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. at University Christian Church, 3900 Cleveland Ave, San Diego. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association of San Diego 4950 Murphy Canyon Road, may be made in Evadale's honor. The family thanks the compassionate caregivers at ActivCare of La Mesa.
