Friedl Opacity Obituary

Friedl Opacity June 7, 1914 - April 6, 2016 Vista Friedl Opacity died Wednesday, April 6th 2016. A 60-year resident of Vista, California, Friedl grew up in Vienna, Austria, the youngest of four children of her beloved parents, Gerson and Regina Kern. As a young girl, she studied piano at the Vienna Conservatory of Music, and remained an enthusiastic and knowledgeable music-lover her whole life. As a young woman in Vienna, she met her husband of 47 years, then medical student from America, Ernest Opacity. Ernie and Friedl first moved to New York City, and then to Vista where they made their home atop a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, amid orange trees and birds of paradise. They were singularly devoted to one another and, following Dr. Opacity's death in 1982, Friedl continued to celebrate his legacy and memory. Friedl was preceded in death by her brothers Dr. Joshua Kern, Dr. William Kern, and Frederich Kern, and her sisters-in-law Margot Kern, Leni Kern, and Stella Angela Kern. She is survived by her niece Regina Kern, cousins Fran Halpern Goldstein and Joan Halpern Gross, Ernie's niece Carol Opacity, and an extraordinary constellation of steadfast and loving friends who supported her throughout her later life all of whom will treasure her loving memory. In accordance with her wishes, Friedl died in the home that she and Ernie cherished. Funeral services will be conducted at Eternal Hills cemetery on Friday, April 15, at 12:30PM. A reception will follow, hosted by the Reverend Charles Wright at the Prince of Peace Abbey in Oceanside, California. Friends and family are invited to attend.
