Gloria Evon Wilson

Evon Ann "Frankie" Wilson died in her home in San Diego, CA after a brief illness, in the care of friends and her loyal dogs. She was born Gloria Evon Sherk to Ray and Verna (Klink) Sherk of Stanwood, WA. Evon spent her youth climbing trees, fishing, and generally trying to keep up with her big brothers.
The family lived in several Washington cities, from Vancouver to Gig Harbor. Evon settled in San Diego by way of Los Angeles, enjoying interesting careers from professional go-go dancer to drafter/designer in architecture and aeronautics. She changed her name to suit herself and picked up the nickname "Frankie" because she was so frank in conversation.
In 1999, Evon married Carleen Hess and the couple lived in Imperial Beach, CA until Carleen's death in 2021. They shared a love of travel and visited their home states of Washington and Iowa by RV with their beloved dogs. They enjoyed Alaska, Hawaii, the Southwest and took a train trip across the country. They were happiest at home, hosting friends for games and holiday dinners.
Evon was a pillar of the recovery community, where she was universally known as Frankie. She donated generously to the L&LL Alano Club and provided innumerable scholarships to the Live & Let Live Women's Roundup to ensure the sisterhood of recovery was available to all. She supported a range of causes and charities including a women's shelter in Imperial Beach, St Jude's Children's Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She helped an incredible number of people individually, opening her home and heart as well as her purse to those in need. She was passionate about animal rights and adopted pets, supported the Humane Society and fed the stray cats near her home.
Evon is survived by her sister, Barbara Grant of Sun City, AZ; brothers Dale Sherk of Puyallup, WA and Dale Sherk of Tacoma, WA; in-laws Bill and Karen Hess of Carroll, IA; John and Linda Hess of Decorah, IA; several nieces and nephews and many good friends.
Memorials in Evon's name may be given to charities mentioned above. A celebration of Frankie's life will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm at her home with a virtual connection available. Please contact carfrank99@gmail.com for details.
