Phyllis Gregory Obituary
Phyllis Jean Gregory September 11, 2016 Encinitas Phyllis Jean Gregory passed away peacefully on September 11, 2016 in her home surrounded by family. Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, she was raised in a loving home able to excel at all she put her mind to. Phyllis had a passion for music and theater. She played several instruments throughout school and was the marching band majorette. Starring in major roles in musical productions and traveling to pursue dance and theater. As a teen during WW II she spent a summer in a production facility riveting aircraft assemblies. Phyllis had a strong work ethic and an unwavering faith in God. Phyllis married and had three children. The family relocated to San Diego and she became a highly respected administrator in the San Diego City colleges and public school system. She became a widow in 1966. She then married Bob Gregory in 1969. They traveled the world together making memories to last a lifetime. Phyllis's creativity and talent were put to good use as she and Bob were moved all over the U.S. due to his career. She had a keen eye for interior and landscape design. Phyllis designed their properties from Honolulu to Washington D.C. leaving her mark to be admired. Along with her daughter she opened a floral shop in Mission Beach, Ca. Phyllis always followed her heart and dedicated her life to her family. She took great pride in her grandchildren and great-granddaughters, never missing a milestone in their lives. She was a confidant to many and admired by those whose lives she touched. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bob; children Michael Grant, Michele Grant, and Mel (Lisa) Gregory; grandchildren Crystal Gregory-Hermanson, Justin Gregory, and great-granddaughters Brooklynne and Chloe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Georgia and brothers, Edward and Rexford Means. Phyllis is loved and cherished by her family and their many friends. The family deeply misses her charm, grace, wisdom and unconditional love. She was a true inspiration and will be forever etched in the memory of their souls. A memorial will be held 1pm, October 15, 2016 at North Coast Calvary Chapel in Carlsbad, Ca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Phyllis Gregory Music & Theater Memorial Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be made to the Musical Theater Foundation for Phyllis Gregory Memorial Scholarship and sent to 287 Countryhaven Rd., Encinitas, CA 92024.
