RICHARD BURNS Obituary

BURNS, RICHARD LLOYD Richard Burns, local businessman, father, and loving husband passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 1, 2011, in Rancho Santa Fe, California. He was born on June 20, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his children Rebecca Hughes, Teresa Dean (Donald), Sheila Collins, James Burns, Michelle Robles (Robert), Debra Gilmore (Craig), Richard Burns (Reggie Chew), Robert Burns (Kelly), fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Richard was a self-made businessman who never forgot where he came from. He enjoyed golf, travel, spending time with his family and friends, and taking his beloved dog Romeo for walks. Although his passing was sudden and unexpected, we take comfort in knowing that Richard enjoyed his life up to the very end. He will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives were affected by his kindness, wisdom, humor and generosity. A celebration of his life will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11th, at The Rancho Santa Fe Country Club, 5827 Via de la Cumbre.

I have many memories of ALL of the Burns family. All of them make me smile. I feel grateful to have had all of you in my life. Richard and Joyce are my parents favorite friends. I have not seen any of you for a long time, so when I think of you we are all a lot younger, which is nice...Richard was an inspiration to us and he will be missed. Greg Romain

I had the opportunity to work with Richard for over 5 years. I enjoyed, respected, and learned from him everytime we met...I will always remember he would email me and tell me he had another project....I would come to the office to meet with him...I would listen....He would give me several pages of scribbled notes and in between Poker (internet) hands tell me he needed it now, and for the best price I could get him. He was the only customer that ever told me that he appreciated what I did for him.It always made me happy to know that I had not let him down. This is what I will Remember about Richard.
I just wish that I could have a few more minutes of his time...There is something important that I forgot to tell him!
I will miss him....

I worked closely with Dick for a few years, and he was a big influence on me. I often thought about our time together with fondness. He was a hoot to be around. Very dynamic, full of life and just a great guy. I am really going to miss him. Brent Lain

As a friend of his son, Rich, I only had a chance to meet Rich's Dad a few times. But I know from talking to Rich, that everyone in the Burns family deeply loved, admired, and respected Mr. Burns. I have an image of him now: hangin' out with the angels, yelling out "check please"!

I was so very sorry to hear that Dick has passed away. Although a cousin in-law, I so much admired Dick's loving care for his family and appreciated his and Joyce's Christmas cards and letters each year. I know everyone will dearly miss his beautiful smile but will hold wonderful memories forever in their hearts.
