Dean Greene

Dean Greene Our Dad/Papa, Dean Thomas Greene peacefully left this earth on January 8, 2016, to be reunited with the love of his life, his wife Dottie. He was the third son born to Walter and Nellie Greene in Dinuba, Calif., in November 1925. While attending Delano High School, Dean excelled in sports, which included football, basketball and tennis. In 2013, he was honored by being inducted into the DHS Football Hall of Fame in Delano, Calif. World War II interrupted his senior year in high school and Dean joined the Navy and was shipped out to the South Pacific aboard the U.S. Naval Vessel 628 for eighteen months. After the war, Dean farmed with his father and brother Delbert near Shafter for several years. In June 1962, he moved his family to San Luis Obispo to begin new employment working at the California Men's Colony as a correctional officer. Dean was well respected among his fellow co-workers and continued to do monthly audits for several years for other institutions in the State of California after he retired as Captain in 1987. In May 1990, Dean and Dorothy relocated to Avila Beach which was close to a golf course, which was a sport that they were both passionate about. Family was most important to him and gave him a purpose to live a long life and enjoy his family. A special thank you to his granddaughter Deneen who resided in his home and cared for him the last three years of his life. We would also like to thank DaVita Dialysis team of San Luis Obispo for their loving care to Dean for the past eight years. Survivors include his daughters, Betty Patti, Barb Pruitt (Greg) and son, Dean II (Shannon). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and one due this summer. Dean was preceded in death by two brothers, his parents and his wife. In his memory, donations may be made to Woods Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A Celebration of Dean's Life is scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 1:00pm at Los Osos Memorial Park in Los Osos, Calif.
