Eugene Osborn Obituary

Eugene C. Osborn, 81 of Paso Robles, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, in San Luis Obispo. Services will held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2006, at the Paso Robles District Cemetery Chapel. The dearly beloved husband of Aileen Machaj, Gene was born in Tranquility, Calif., on Jan. 27, 1925. In 1934, his family moved to Shandon. After high school, he helped local farmers and worked at Camp Roberts. After his discharge from the Navy (during which time he saw action in the Pacific), Gene received his engineering degree from Fresno State. He worked for Cal State as construction inspector on many projects, such as bridges and overpasses, until his retirement in 1980. During college he married Jacqueline Rollins, now deceased, and raised two children, Jessica and Phillip. Gene returned to Paso Robles in 1992. In 1995, he was called out of retirement to work for the State Water Resources to inspect the California water pipeline laid through San Luis Obispo County. Gene always enjoyed working with the land. Gene was a proud, long time member of the Masonic Lodge; his last 12 years were with the Paso Robles Lodge #286. He enjoyed many years as a member of the Paso Robles AA group. Gene and Aileen spent many happy years traveling to the Orient and Europe until he became a dialysis patient the last three years. They still enjoyed life to the fullest until his unfortunate passing. Many thanks to Dr. Wolfe and the staff at SLO Renal Clinic. Gene will be remembered for his loving, generous, optimistic and happy nature. He is survived by his loving wife Aileen Machaj of Paso Robles, daughter Jessica of Paso Robles, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Pat of Florida, grandson Phillip, sister-in-law Ila Mary and many nieces, nephews and great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by brothers, John and Frank; sister Ada; son Phillip and granddaughter Katherine Donations may be made in his name to the Paso Robles Masonic Lodge F&AM #286, P.O. Box 2548, Paso Robles, CA, 93447.
