Sonya Bracken

Sonya Bracken Sonya Ebsen Albert Bracken, 84, died peacefully at home in Los Osos after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Sonya was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and lived her early years in Key West, Jacksonville, and Orlando, Florida, before moving to Los Angeles to attend UCLA where she graduated with a degree in theater arts and where she met Ray. They were married in 1959. They moved into their newly built home in Los Osos in 1963 and soon became active members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her great love of music was fulfilled by singing in the choir for forty years. She also became active in the League of Women Voters of San Luis Obispo, serving on the Board, and was a life member of the Sierra Club, and a staunch Democrat with a passion for social justice. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ray Bracken; her sister, Hannah Jacobsen (Dr. Carl Jacobsen) of Shingle Springs, and her nephews, Bill Kennedy (Vicki) of Shingle Springs, Scott Kennedy (Kenia) of San Jose, and David Kennedy (Lorin) of San Jose, and their children. She is also survived by her cousins, Robert Dolan (Dana) of Westlake Village and Michael Briggs (Lorenca) of New Hampshire, and many more Ebsen cousins. Sonya was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Ebsen Albert; her stepfather, Franklin Albert; her uncle, Buddy Ebsen, and aunts, Helga Ebsen, Vilma Ebsen and Leslie Ebsen. Her cremated remains will be placed in the Court of Good Shepherds at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park.
