Norma Loehr Obituary

Norma Charlotte Loehr
June 14,1920-Feb.3,2013
Resident of Santa Cruz
Private services were held for Norma Loehr, who passed away at her home on February 3, 2013. She was 92.
Norma was born in Watsonville to Andrew "Johnny" and Giovanna "Jenny" Pinelli on June 14, 1920. At the age of two, she moved with her parents to Santa Cruz, where she lived the rest of her life. She attended Garfield Park Elementary, Mission Hill Junior High, and graduated from Santa Cruz High in 1938.
During her teenage years, she was a professional accordionist, playing lead in small bands at many different venues in and around the Santa Cruz area. One night she played on the cement ship "Palo Alto" during the brief time there was a nightclub on board. She married her husband Bob Loehr in 1941. They had their first child Michelle in 1942. Shortly after that Bob left for World War II, and was gone for 3 years. They had their second child, Bryan, in 1948.
During the years of raising her family, Norma held several different part-time jobs around Santa Cruz to augment the family income. The last job she held was in the Santa Cruz High School Cafeteria, where she worked for 15 years, ending in 1972. She enjoyed her work and co-workers, serving lunches to a great many staff and students over the years. Since her retirement she busied herself by caring for and supporting her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 1999. She is survived by her sister Babe Demos of Santa Cruz, her daughter Michelle Lybrand (Ken Larrey) of Fresno, her son Bryan Loehr (Janet) of Santa Cruz, her four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She requested that remembrances be made in the form of donations to the Santa Cruz chapter of The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) P.O. Box 3800 Santa Cruz, CA 95063. If you would like to share your condolences with Norma's family please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com

Sharon (Loehr) Merideth
My condolence to Bryan and Michelle and family. Aunt Norma was a wonderful and thoughtful aunt and taught me to play the accordian and I was fortunate to see her often when I attended Santa Cruz High School and ate in the cafeteria. She was well liked and really a friendly face to all that knew her and my friends. She lived a good life and I will miss her phone calls.
