Dale Amburn Obituary

DALE AMBURN Well known Santa Fe artist Dale Amburn passed away quietly in his home with family beside him on November 2, 2014 at age 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Halcyon Amburn, and sister, Jerrie Coates. He is survived by his brother Bill Amburn of Ossian, IN; daughters Debra Meyer (Jeffrey) of Santa Fe, NM and Camalia Yuen of Venice, CA; grandchildren, Llana Meyer-Sartain (Michael), Max Yuen and Lili Yuen, and great grandson, Lennon Sartain. Dale was born on July, 21, 1928 in Farmland, IN, graduated from the Ft. Wayne Art Institute, served the U.S. Navy on the USS Segundo from 1946-1948 and returned to graduate from Art Center College of Design ('53) in Los Angeles, CA. His fine art and design career spans more than 60 years with residencies in Indiana, California, Mexico, and New Mexico. His work has been collected nationally and internationally. Dale valued privacy and did not wish to be memorialized. His family will honor that request - mourning his passing while celebrating his extraordinary life and art. If you wish to make a memorial contribution, please follow his example with a donation to The Food Depot or Kitchen Angels.

I met Dale during a insurance claim. His attitude and wisdom were always positive. Anytime I went through Santa Fe we would have lunch and talk. His love for the arts was immense only to be outdone by his love for his children
I miss you Dale!

Dale was a mentor to me. I was in his classes when he taught graphic design in Fort Wayne back in the mid 70's. We kept in contact through ensuing the years, via letters, phone calls and Christmas cards. I had the privilege of catching up with Dale in person back in 2012 when my wife and I made the journey to Santa Fe. We had a great time reminiscing about the classes, the instructors, the students and our work. We then sat and looked over his vast artwork collection at his residence. What a prolific artist! He spoke fondly of his life, his family and his experiences. Dale you will be missed... not only by your family, your friends, your patrons but especially by me. I consider it one of my greatest privileges to call you my friend. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Dale was a good friend and one of the Great Teachers I've encountered. His indomitable will and desire to learn helped him overcome the obstacles of debilitating illness; to recover, manage, and thrive.
A man of great creative vision and artistic talent, who refused to remain in the style that had brought him popularity and recognition - he branched out and painted what he felt and experienced.

I am, and always will be, thankful to have known him.
Be at peace, my friend.

One of the finest artists I ever had the privilege of representing in my New Millennium Gallery, he always struggled with health issues but always had a kind word for a friend, and he had many friends who held him in the highest esteem.

One of the best artists I have ever had the privilege of representing in my gallery, New Millennium Fine Art, Dale was truly an insightful fellow who struggled valiantly with health issues, and always had a kind word for a friend....

Dale Amburn was a very special person. He was a pure and gifted man devoting his life to art. I painted with Dale for 28 years creating a bond that will be in my heart forever.
I made closure with Dale's death in my private moments and
prayer. Dale stated many times that he wanted no parties, formal
services, or public recognition after his death. His daughter, Debbie, is carrying out Dales wishes for the Amburn family with
dignity and exactness.
Dale May be gone, but every time I paint a picture Dale will still
have his hand on my shoulder.
