Dixie Alice Allen (ne Degn)

1937 - 2022

Dixie Alice Allen (n e Degn), passed away Saturday June 12 at the age of 85. Born in Santa Maria on March 23, 1937, Dixie remained a life-long resident.

Her childhood home was near Waller park, and she attended grade school in Orcutt.

She graduated valedictorian from Santa Maria High School, class of 1955. On October 21, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart Wayne Allen. They built their life here, co-owning and operating Degn's Shoe Service for over forty years, of which they became proprietors after her father Alfred. They raised their two children, Michael Allen and Renee Baber (ne Allen) here in Santa Maria.

Following retirement, Dixie and Wayne maintained an active and vibrant social life, traveled the world, and were members of the Danish Lodge in Solvang, California, in honor of her Danish heritage. She was especially fond of the Birthday Club, which she helped to organize yearly with friends from her high school days.

Dixie had impeccable style and was a lover of the arts. Her smile was infectious, and she had a mirthful sense of humor. She took joy in hosting and was a talented cook, with a sweet tooth she passed on to her grandchildren, often in the form of See's candies, a favorite of Dixies.

Dixie was preceded in death by her mother, Frederica Degn, and father, Alfred Degn.

Dixie leaves behind her loving husband Wayne, children Michael and Renee, four grandchildren, Graeme Aycock, Garrett Aycock, Melinda Allen, and Melanie Allen, and two great grandchildren, Adam Cole and Luciana Aycock.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10am on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Dudley-Hoffman funeral home on Stowell road.
