Janice Stone Obituary

Janice K. Brightman Stone
Born: October 15, 1934 in Fenton, IL
Died: February 15, 2024 in Garden Plain, IL
Janice K. Brightman Stone, 89, passed away on February 15, 2024, in Garden Plain, IL.
Janice, an Erie native, was born October 15, 1934, to Lloyd and Gladys Brightman. After graduating from Erie High School in 1952, Janice attended the Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955. Nursing and caring for others was central to her being. Janice began her career as a nurse in obstetrics at Morrison Hospital and then served as a school nurse, where she spent over 30 years caring for students in the Riverbend and Erie school districts.
Janice was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She married David M. Stone in Erie, IL on October 7, 1956. Together, they farmed in Garden Plain, IL and raised their three children. Janice was an active member and pillar of Garden Plain Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder. She actively supported many charitable organizations, including contributing to the welfare of warriors and veterans. To help others lead fuller lives, Janice chose to be an organ and tissue donor.
Janice was selfless, caring, and deeply loved. She touched the lives of everyone around her in a positive and unforgettable way. When she wasn't serving her community, Janice enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Those who knew Janice, knew of her bountiful kitchen. Food was her love language. Her beautiful legacy and wonderful recipes remain.
Surviving Janice are her three children; Mark (Sue) Stone of Colona, IL, Rev. Rod (Marsae) Stone of Pinehurst, NC, and Carol (Ken) Stralow of Morrison, IL; her four grandchildren, Christina Stone of Atlanta, GA; Hannah, David and Sarah Stralow of Morrison, IL; and her sister Judy (Arlyn) Avery. She was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Stone; her parents, Lloyd (Gladys) Brightman; and sister-in-law, Helen M. Stone.
A celebration of Janice's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Garden Plain Presbyterian Church, 14915 Sand Road, Fulton, IL 61252. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 2nd from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, 404 Lincolnway East, Morrison, IL 61270.

Janice and Dave Stone along with their children, helped take care of our little ones when my husband served the Garden Plain Presbyterian Church in the 1970´s. They were so welcoming and helpful to Jim and me when we first arrived in Garden Plain with a newborn baby.
They are dear friends, and Jim and I are so sad to hear of Janice´s passing.
To Mark, Rod, Carol and their families, our deepest sympathies.
