DIXON – Rita Thompson, 73, of Dixon, died on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Rita was born on August 12, 1949 in Sterling, the daughter of Manuel and Mary (Garcia) Caudillo. She married Charles E. Thompson on June 3, 1976. He preceded her in death in 2013, following 46 years together.
Rita had the Biggest Heart and was all about family, loving and giving. The oldest of eight siblings, she started her career at the age of 14 with Youth Corp at Dixon State School. Rita was a graduate of the Sauk Valley RN program, and was employed at the Dixon Correctional Center for over 25 years until retirement.
Survivors include one son, Mike Thompson; her "kids" Isaac Caudillo, Leticia Caudillo, Carlos Caudillo Jr., and Jax Caudillo; Special Niece, Taylor Caudillo; and siblings, Larry (Madeline) Caudillo, Richard Caudillo, Patty (Gary) Dowding, Mark (Reyna) Caudillo, and Monica Caudillo.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, David Caudillo, and Sally Caudillo.
Cremation rites will be accorded. In honor of Rita's wishes, no services will be held at this time.

Growing up and playing as children, we spent alot of time together. I´ll never forget the kindness you showed me when we lost our grandson.. RIP

Rita stressed using UDDER BALM as hand lotion during the winter months such as we are presently experiencing - she even educated male staff to use it. Sometimes brining in the item to be used in the hospital when pharmacy could not provide it. She was a jewel in the hospital enjoyed working with her as I was an employee from another dept.
