Anthony Aliotta Obituary

Anthony "Tootie" Francis Aliotta, 70, of Savannah, Ga, passed away peacefully the morning of October 28, 2018. Tony was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was born in Savannah, GA on July 22, 1948. He attended Blessed Sacrament School, Benedictine Military School and Armstrong State College. Tony served as a Warrant Officer in the Vietnam War where he earned a Purple Heart as a Cobra helicopter pilot in the 8th Cavalry, one of the most highly decorated regiments of the war. He also received a Bronze Star, an Air Medal "V" for heroism while participating in aerial flight in the Republic of Vietnam. And he was also an Honoree of the 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment during Iraqi Freedom. He is preceded in death by his son Kevin Christopher Aliotta, his mother Margaret Brown Aliotta and father Salvatore Francis Aliotta. His career included years with SSA Marine, Ryan Walsh, Inc., Palmetto Shipping and Stevedoring Co., Southeast Atlantic Cargo Operators (SEACO) and Global Marine Drilling Company. During these years, he traveled to many exciting places around the world. However, his children and grandchildren were the apple of his eye and they were his pride and joy. But his greatest achievement according to his children was that no matter where he was or what he was doing, he was there for them - no matter what. Tony was an avid reader and always encouraged his loved ones to "read a book"! You could see his smile from across the room when he was happily cooking anything Italian. He is survived by his wife of 18 years Linda Lott Aliotta, his daughter Stephanie Aliotta Coomer (Richard) and their children Everette and Molly, his son Anthony Sean Aliotta (Tiffany) and their daughters Hayden and Reagan, his brother Frank D. Aliotta (Lisa A.), his sisters Betty Aliotta Shay (Rick) and Maria Aliotta Oxnard (Ben), his aunt Mary Anne M. Aliotta, stepdaughters Kari Pace and her children Kelcey, Kasen and Colten and Christen Rose (Shaun) and their children Calvin, MacKenzie and Clara and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at Baker-McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406 on Thursday evening, November 1, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The family request that remembrances in honor of Tony be sent to: Tiny House Project, Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless, P.O. Box 8936, Savannah, GA 31412/ operationtinyhome.org.

Sending heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the entire Aliota family on your loss of Tony. He was an excellent athlete and competitor in grammar school and at Benedictine. We were also classmates at Armstrong. It is my loss that I do not know him as the brave American patriot and loving family man he became. May your warm memories lessen your loss. May Tony Requiescat in Pace.

My sincere condolences to the Aliotta family. I had the pleasure of working with Tony for many years on the Savannah waterfront. He was a great friend and colleague. We lost touch when I left Savannah in the late nineties but I always thought of him. He touched a lot of peoples lives.

Stephanie and Family,
Keith and I are so sorry for your loss. After my Dad's passing last year I remember standing up after his service and seeing Richard. Then walking over to speak to others and there you were with a big, sincere, hug. I wish I was there to give you a big hug right now. I know how sad you are and there is nothing I can say or do to diminish the pain. I promise that God will comfort you and as time passes you will smile while remembering your Dad instead of cry. We are praying for everyone to have peace and comfort during this difficult life journey.

So sorry to hear of Tony's passing. We grew up together on 60th Street in Savannah and were great friends. He was one heck of an athlete with football probably being his best sport. I haven't seen him in years but have great memories of our early years. Condolences to the family. Tommy Bond

I am so very saddened to learn of the passing of Tony. He and his family were near and dear to me, at one time when Anthony and I dated, and I lived in my hometown of Savannah. We cooked together, had many delicious meals, and lots of laughter always with the "Aliottas" !! My deepest condolences go out to his lovely children, family, and dear friends.

Rest in Peace Sweet Man!!

I am so sorry to hear this news. Although we lost contact over the last twenty years or so, he was my closest friend in high school. We drove to school together every morning, and spent summers shark fishing in Wassau Sound, or hanging out at his father's shrimp boats in Thunderbolt. He was a good Catholic, but he was a regular Sunday morning visitor to my house for lox and bagels instead of Pierogi. Tooti had a heart of gold, and I always intended to reconnect. So sad that won't be possible. I know all of our high school friends share my sadness at his passing.
