Barbara Mango Obituary

Barbara Kilduff Mango - SAVANNAH - Barbara Elizabeth Kilduff Mango, 94, beloved wife of Lt. Colonel (USAF) Patrick James Mango, passed away peacefully at home with her family present on December 27, 2011 after a long and valiant battle with Pick's Disease. Mrs. Mango, born on October 14, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York, was the daughter of Dr. Gilbert and Louise Weber Kilduff. She graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury, Connecticut and attended Duke University, graduating in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then obtained a Masters degree in Public Health from Yale University. In the 1940s, she worked as a public health specialist for the state Department of Public Health in Hartford, Connecticut. Following her marriage in 1949, she and Lt. Colonel Mango were stationed at U.S. Air Force bases throughout the United States, as well as in Okinawa, Taiwan, and the Philippines. The Mangos retired to Savannah, GA, where they have lived for more than 30 years. Mrs. Mango was an avid golfer, swimmer, and reader, and excelled in all types of card and word games (routinely beating all of her opponents). She is survived by and will be sorely missed by her husband; daughters, Louise Mango Ferris and Patrice Mango; son, Nicholas K. Mango; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Garthe; son-in-law Craig Ferris; and granddaughter Devon Ferris. A graveside funeral service was held on Friday, December 30, 2011, at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
