Rupert McCorkle Obituary

Hardeeville, SC - Mr. Rupert O. McCorkle, 90, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Lifecare Center in North Charleston, SC. He was born in Bulloch County on August 12, 1912 to Cleveland McCorkle and Omelia Anderson McCorkle. Mr. McCorkle moved to Hardeeville in 1949 where he farmed and was a salesman for Derst Baking Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Hardeeville Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors: three daughters, Sandra M. Matthews of Kernersville, NC, DeLana M. Tillotson of Summerville, SC, and Marion M. Finney of Columbia, SC; two sons, J. Kenneth McCorkle of Montgomery, AL and Chester O. McCorkle of Port St. Joe, FL; a sister, Antonette DeLoach of Register; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Burial: Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Claxton. Remembrances: The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the donor s local Red Cross Chapter. We are saddened by the death of Mr. Rupert O. McCorkle, and express our sympathy and condolence to the family. Mr. McCorkle was a nice man, and a respected citizen of the town of Hardeeville, S.C. while living there with his family. He and his wife, raised there children in a manner that they were equally respected. He will be missed by all who new him.
