William Vincent "Duke" Snyder

William Snyder Obituary

William V. Snyder lived a full and rich 84 years. He passed away Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia after a brief illness. He was born June 10, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa to Dr. and Mrs. Warren W. Snyder. Duke Snyder was a former member of the Eighth Air Force in Europe, flying 35 combat missions over Europe, flying 35 combat missions over Europe during WWII. As a Veteran of the Second World and Korean Wars, he served his country proudly and returned to his family grateful and continued his military service for a total of 26 years. Duke was a constant source of helpful information. He was admired by many and those whom he met, soon called him friend. Duke brought joy to his family and friends with his personal stories, sage advice and kind words. This beloved man was a resident of Savannah for more than 27 years. He was a member of the St. Frances Cabrini Church Prim e-timers and the Windsor Forest Golden Agers, and for years Duke eagerly awaited each Monday night Poker game with his dear friends. His greatest wealth was his family...Duke is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Christella D. Snyder; brother, Dr. Robert Snyder of Colorado; son, Warren and daughter -in -law, Leeca Snyder; four daughters, Sonja Sue and son -in-law, Bob Metreyeon, Trudy and son-in-law, Jim Broussard, Deborah Padilla and Leighel Snyder and son-in-law, Gosha Shvahbeyn; six grandsons, Damon and Darren Chaumont, Lorin Padilla, Stephen and Bradley Smith and William Ilya Snyder-Shvahbeyn; two grand daughters, Brooke Padilla and Blake Snyder; two great-grand daughters, Morgan Smith and Whitney Chaumont and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Monday, June 28, 2004 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel. Graveside service will be Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery. Remembrances to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church School Fund or the American Cancer Society.
