Betty Scheenstra

03/05/1933 - 05/06/2023 On May 6, 2023, at the age of 90, Betty Scheenstra (Wiersma) went home to be with the Lord. She was born on March 5, 1933 in Los Angeles County of Dutch immigrant parents, Jim and Beatrice Wiersma, who settled with their family in the Bellflower/Artesia, CA area. Betty was the last surviving sibling of five. She met her husband Edward Henry Scheenstra at the Iceland Ice Rink in Artesia at the age of 16. A couple of years later they tied the knot. They started their family in Bellflower, then relocated to Ontario, CA and remained there as their family continued to grow. Betty considered her greatest calling in this life to be that of a stay-at-home mom who instilled within each of her six children the truth of God's love and His plan of salvation (the Gospel of Grace). Betty was a member of Lincoln Avenue Community Church in Pomona, CA for over 64 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and cherished the faith there, always having a hunger for God's Word. Along with helping in the family auction business, she thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for many years at 3 Way Thrift Store arranging showcases. Betty's surviving and devoted husband, Edward, of over 70 years, in her words was a "10" in her book. Her faith in Christ will always impact the lives of her children: Richard Scheenstra (Sharon), Linda Pearson (Dave), Lori Strange, Roger (Sue) Scheenstra, Lisa Pascua (John), and Ronald (Kathy) Scheenstra; as well as her 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The graveside service will convene Friday, May 19, 2:30 PM, at Bellevue Memorial Park, Ontario, CA. The Celebration of Life service will be at Lincoln Avenue Community Church in Pomona, CA, Saturday, May 20, at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow.
