Edmund A. (Mo, Eddie) Mahoney, Jr., formerly of Heckscherville, Pa., died on July 22.
Born in Pottsville on August 31, 1945, he was the beloved son of the late Edmund and Rose (nee Devers) Mahoney.
Preceded in death by brother Baby Patrick Mahoney, sister Barbara Schwartz, and brothers-in-law Ronald Schwartz and John Holobetz.
Survived by siblings Margaret Mahoney, Joseph Mahoney, Mary Holobetz, and Anne (Herb) Glose.
He was adored by his nieces and nephews Colleen Derfler; Jennifer Woodson; Ron Schwartz; Katie Porrino; Meghan Holobetz; Herbie, Lauren, and Patrick Glose; as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews, Dev and Corey Woodson; Jack and Sean Derfler; Avery and Marie Schwartz; Ava, Max, Cory, and John Porrino; Jack and Colin Glose.
Edmund was a member of St. Kieran's Church and a 1963 graduate of Nativity BVM High School. He enlisted in the Marines and served in the Mediterranean and multiple tours of duty in Vietnam. Edmund was honorably discharged as a decorated Sergeant in 1967. His last assignment was with the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine, 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force, Camp Lejeune.
Edmund owned a scuba diving business and loved living and diving on Martha's Vineyard. He attended the Culinary Institute of America and worked in the hospitality industry in NYC and Florida. He returned to Schuylkill County for his retirement.
His family and friends will remember him for his quick wit, devoted service to our country, generosity, cooking skills, love of reading and history, great conversations and vivid story telling. He will be dearly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. August 8, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 319 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, PA, preceded by calling hours in the church from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at St. Kieran's Number 2 Cemetery, Llewellyn, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Captain Jason Jones Memorial Foundation, PO Box 172, Orwigsburg, PA 17961 or at www.captainjasonjones.com.
