Charles Segale Obituary

Charles A. SEGALE Born September 8, 1954 in Seattle Washington to Ray and Ann Segale. He died on July 31st, 2008 in Winthrop Washington. Charlie attended Christ the King Grade School, Bishop Blanchet High School and graduated with a degree in business from the University of Puget Sound. Charlie played football and wrestled in high school and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at UPS. After college Charlie traveled and thrived on adventures, from being a rough neck drilling for zinc in Tennessee to working as a hand on a cattle ranch outside of Vail Colorado. He returned to Seattle and embarked on a successful career as a crab fisherman in the Bering Sea Alaska. Charlie met Karla, his wife of 20 years, while they were both riding bikes on the Burke Gillman Trail. They lived for a time in Seattle eventually moving to the Methow Valley. The home Charlie built at the top of Pine Forest is truly unique and beautiful. Karla and Charlie loved to ride their bikes, kayak and cross country ski together. He relished the expansive wilderness and challenges the area offered. Winthrop's close rural community was truly home to Charlie. Charlie was preceded in death byhis father Ray Segale, his grandmothers Annie MacPherson and Nellie Carrasino. He is survived by his wife Karla Segale, mother Ann Segale, brother Ray Segale and his sisters Mary Woodbury and Joan Albee, his double cousins, Bruce, Shawn, Doug and Craig MacPherson. Charlie had many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. Charlie was loved by all his family and friends. A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday August 9th at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church in Twisp Washington. Later that day family and friends gathered at Charlie and Karla's home to share stories about Charlie's adventures, work endeavors, and unwavering love for humanity and the world around him. Charlie will be missed by all who knew him. Please sign the online guest book at www.legacy.com or login in at http://charliesegale.legacy.com Thank you.

I am soooo glad I knew Charlie. It was a bonus of being Mary's friend. I too think of the smile, the kindness and just how nice he was. He made you feel important when you talked with him. Mrs. Segale, Butch, Joanie and Mary I always think of you has a terrific family and great individuals. I'm thinking of you frequently.

Charlie's sister Joanie is my very good friend. She had something I always wanted...a brother and what a brother she had. I can still see Charlie rolling his eyes, shuffling his feet and that cute smile as we regaled him with our college antics. What a sweet guy!

Who can think of Charlie and not smile, even at this very sad time. When my memories of Charlie play on the movie screen of my mind I recall a kind, warm, quick witted person that was always fun to be around, quick to smile and who had a kind word to say about everyone and whom I was blessed to have know.
Charlie will always be apart of me as long as I am alive.

My heart goes out to the whole Segale family. Charlie was one of my dearest friends and I will miss his humor and smile that I loved so much about him. I see him everyday by looking at the 3 pictures on my office wall. Two of when we climbed Mt. Rainier together and one on the back bowls at Vail in 30 inches of powder. He will always be in my memory. Keepin you in my thoughts and prayers,
Craig Schultz

As visitors to Pine Forest, Charlie helped us strangers out several times. He was very friendly doing so.

Charlie's spring loaded smile and welcoming person will be missed...alot. I had the blessing of knowing Charlie in our days at Christ the King and the thousands of hours playing football at Segale Field in our Haller Lake neighborhood. Charlie was a great athlete and tremendous competitor. Ann, Mary and Joaney; I convey my most sincere and heartfelt condolences....our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Charlie's Family,

How less the world is without him. When his name came up over the years, even not having seen him in a while, you couldn't help but to smile.

Charlie was truly one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. He made me and all around him laugh many times at wrestling practice and on the bus. I saw him last in Winthrop about 3 years ago when I ran into him on the street. It was as if we had seen each other last week, that was the way Charlie was. I will miss him a lot. I am so sorry for all of his family and friends for their loss.

To Karla and the entire Segale family,
Charlie and I attended were in the same class at Blanchet. I always was attracted to his soft red hair, his quiet way and that "impish" grin. My deepest sympathies to each of you. May God grant you the grace and strength to endure this difficult time.

My memories of my childhood were shaken with the news of Charles passing away. I grew up with envy the love your family had for each other and the fun ways you shared it. You taught me what family values could be. I wish you the strength to survive his loss.

My deepest sympathy to Karla and family. I was shocked and saddened to see the notice in Sunday's paper. I remember Charlie from working with him at the Haller Lake home, then later at his rental properties. He was incredibly strong and a fun, great guy.

Charlie was an easy one to be around. Always a friendly greeting. What kid wouldn't remember the guy who gave out "king size" candy bars at halloween. Mine do. What adult didn't enjoy the thought of doing kid things, as Charlie sometimes did. I do. I am surprised, saddened and sorry for your loss. Our loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
