Nilmah and family,
I’m so sorry to hear about George’s passing. I had sent George a text a month ago. I was lifting in my home gym in my garage and thought of George, aka Keoki. George was more than my college advisor. He was my weight lifting partner from 1982-1984. Y’all took me in for two weeks when my college apartment was being renovated. Nilmah, you were so gracious to let me stay with you when the kids were really little. I don’t know why but I remember Grayson’s chili bowl haircut! George took me fishing several times. Later in life, I had dinner in Dallas when George was on one of his many recruiting trips.
I’m deeply saddened by the passing of a great man and friend.
Respectfully,
Jim “Kimo” Lyness

I have so many wonderful memories of George. He greatly improved the quality of the student body of our alma mater. I know many people that he mentored. But most of all, I will miss our lunches and discussions of wide ranging issues. There is no man I know I admire more....
