To Kent's Family,
I was a childhood friend of Kent's,living in the same block in Hutchinson, Kansas. Last week while I was on the computer, Kent "popped into my head" and I started remembering a violin solo he did in elementary school. I wondered if he continued playing as an adult, so I looked him up on the internet. I found a Kent Coleman in Washington who was a violin teacher, and thought it must surely be him. As hard as I looked, I couldn't find a picture or age or address. My mom (Ellen Gorsky from Hutchinson) just told me that he passed away last week. How odd that I must have been researching Kent just before he died. God surely had His hand in it! Perhaps it was just to remind me of a childhood friend, or to remember the joy he brought to a group of his peers at such a young age. I am so sorry for your loss and will pray for strength and peace for your family.

Jan, Chris and Matt, It was with great sorrow we learned of Kent's death, so sudden and so young. It has been several years since Rick and I made our weekly trips to your home on Monday evenings for two hour violin lessons from our home on Bainbridge Island. The trip was long, but as most all of Kent's students made long trips to have the best of the best instruction in the art of violin performance and technique, from a kind, patient and skillful master who gave his all to each one of them. How lucky we were to have been a part of his legacy, he touched so many lives in a positive way, we are greatful. And how do you fill the vast hole in your lives that his passing has made? I truly wish I could answer that question for you, but alas I cannot. Since the last time we had seen one another our 23 year old daughter died, and 3 years later I still ask myself the same question, "How do you look at life again with the same eyes you had before?" I hope you have a good support system that will stand next to you and let you be who and what you have to be on this new journey you and the boys will travel. My heart is heavy with dispair, he will always be with you in spirit, it's just harder to touch him like you did before in the flesh.
With much love to you all,

It has been wonderful knowing you. You had such a gift for working with children - so personable and warm. Thank you for sharing your gift for music with our children. Jan, Chris and Matt, our prayers are with you. "...from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad."
