Mary Waltz Obituary
Mary Waltz died August 3, 2013 at her home in Bellevue. Mary was born July 6, 1914, the third child of Fred and Edith Swan Roberts. She graduated from Garfield High School and the University of Washington, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She married Robert Waltz, a fellow UW alum, on September 21, 1938. They lived for a year in San Francisco and Berkeley, and then moved to Snohomish, where Bob managed The Seattle-Snohomish Mill Company.
Mary was very active at St. John's Episcopal Church in Snohomish, especially with the Altar Guild. She also enjoyed bridge, Husky football, the Everett book club, dancing, summers at Whidbey Island, ocean cruises, the Sunset Club in Seattle, and the Seattle Opera. After her husband died in 1989, Mary moved to Bellevue.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Roberts and sister Ruth Roberts Clarke. She is survived by daughters Susan Nunes (Geoff) and Anne Waltz, and son Robert Waltz (Kathy). There were five grandchildren to whom she was devoted and eleven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Snohomish on August 28th at 11:00 a.m.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Robert R. and Mary Roberts Waltz Endowed Fellowship at the UW Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
The family thanks Evergreen hospice and expresses much gratitude to Berfie LaPastora and Pat Nicholoff for their wonderful care of Mary for several years.
She always saw the bright side of any issue, so some in the family called her Little Mary Sunshine.
