Prudence Baldwin Obituary

Prue BALDWIN Surrounded by family at her home, Prudence Weigle Baldwin passed away on July 31, 2008, at age 72 after a dignified battle with lung cancer. Her generosity of spirit, keen intellect and sense of fun will be missed by all who knew her. Born in Seattle in 1936, to Bernadette and Alfred Weigle, Prue grew up in Madison Park, and attended Forest Ridge School. She graduated in 1956 from the University of Washington with a degree in Economics and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Prue was a member of the Children's Hospital Genevieve Henry Guild, established in 1958 with many dear friends who shared her value of the hospital. Prue was proud to be the first recipient in 1994 of the Mary Maxwell Gates Community Award given in recognition of "volunteerism at its best." Pru was a gifted volunteer and an incredible individual. I learned of her passing from our classmate, Isabel Foster Hopf. My prayers are with her family.

Jessica, Joe, and Jack (and families),

I was so sorry to learn of your mom's passing. It is indeed a difficiult process to have to say goodbye and I hope you will be especially gentle with yourselfs at this time.

In thinking of your mom I'm reminded of the many conversations I had with her at Sandy Point. Even as a very rebellious teenager your mom always made time for me, was interested in what I was up to (which was not always good!), and made me feel appreciated. And isn't it remarkable how that is remembered after many years? I call that making an leaving a positive impact.

I enjoyed her company, her laugh, and her general outlook. She was wonderful and I count her as one of the more exceptional people that I've been fortunate enough to encounter.

I wish you all peace of mind and heart.

Warmest regards - Dale Bouton

We are sorry for your family's loss. My mom, Gloria Seijas Sferra '55, remembers Prue well from Forest Ridge. My mom remembers Prue as "totally cute" and "her lamb was always moving up the stairs to Mater at an excelled rate." (a sign of good behavior) Our thoughts and prayers. Lisa Sferra Olsen '88 FR

I spent many hours at Prue's kitchen table trying to absorb everything she had to say and hoping I could one day finish the crossword puzzle before her. As a mother and a volunteer, I know she shaped my life as a teen and I will always be indebted to her for instilling a desire to do your best and to give back.
