Richard Hansen Obituary

Richard L. "Dick" Hansen

Richard L. Hansen "Dick" passed away peacefully on October 11 at his home in Ballard, WA.

Dick was born in Lewiston, ID to Robert Hansen and Mary M. Babcock Hansen on November 15, 1929. He graduated Salutatorian from Winchester High School in 1947 and was active in sports, band and theater. He married Lois Severin in 1957. They were married 38 years. He had three children, Paul Hansen Beaudry, Greg Hansen, and Roberta (Bobbie) Hansen Barton.

He owned and managed an independent insurance agency, Glendale Highline Insurance, in Burien, WA for 28 years. He was a member in the Burien Lions Club for years. In retirement he volunteered with Spokane County Courts in Spokane, WA. Since 1961, he was a Freemason of the M W Grand Lodge of F. & A. M. of Washington, Manitoba No. 246. He lived in both Spokane and Federal Way, WA for the majority of his life.

Dick was a quiet and kind man who lived modestly. A talented musician, he played five instruments (trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone and piano) and was in a jazz band as a young man. He continued to play and enjoy music his entire life. Friends and family members remember him as a very intelligent and diligent person. He was meticulous in the upkeep of his home doing all the repair work himself. His daughter recalls fondly delicious holiday meals that he lovingly cooked for his family. He was a generous provider and caring person. He recently became a great-grandfather and expressed exuberant joy over her birth.

Dick is preceded in death by his mother; father; wife, Lois; older sister, Miriam (Hugh) Hansen McNair; and loving companion of 18 years, Colleen Miller.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Barton of Seattle; two sons, Paul Beaudry of Post Falls, ID and Greg Hansen of Seattle; two granddaughters, Allison Beaudry of Renton and Jillian (Dane) Beaudry Henze of Olympia; grandson, Joshua Barton of Seattle, and his great grand daughter, Kennedy Henze; and his nephew Mark (Barbara) McNair of Seattle.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Spokane, WA. Donations can be made in honor of his memory to Meals on Wheels or The Salvation Army.

So very sorry to hear about Mr. Hansen's passing. While at a cafe, the obituary page caught my eye, which rarely happens, and there I saw my father's best friend Dick. My dad Jim Mahlik passed away several years ago, but I will always fondly remember the stories of those two. He grew up with Dick in Winchester, and I believe Dick, with his calm demeanor, was the only who could handle my dad's tough personality. My father's last wishes while he was dying were to say goodbye to his girls and to see Dick one last time. Wishing the family peace in this difficult time, Connie (Mahlik) Manson.
