Wendy Haas Obituary

Wendy Wankowski Haas

Wendy Jean Wankowski Haas died peacefully in the arms of her husband on June 28, 2013. Wendy was born on February 8, 1955 in Fort Lewis, Washington. She spent her childhood in Burien, helping out at her parents' store after school and on weekends. Wendy graduated from Glacier High School in 1973 and attended Central Washington State College, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business.

After college Wendy returned to the Seattle area to manage a Lerner's department store. Wendy had a strong desire to help people and in 1981 joined Boeing where she spent 31 years in the Human Resources and Ethics departments. Wendy believed in giving back to the community and over the years volunteered at Seattle Children's hospital, the Special Olympics, was an assistant Campfire Girl leader, a Cub Scout den leader, and manager of her son's soccer team. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals and would bring in lost dogs until their owners could be found. She loved to cook and recently started gardening to grow her own produce.

Above all else Wendy loved and lived for her family. Her life's focus was participating in her sons' activities, and planning holidays, events and vacations. She enjoyed long driving trips with her family, her favorite destinations being Disneyland, Yellowstone National Park, and the Oregon Coast to hunt for agates.

Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, Ellen and Jerry Wankowski and her brother Steven. She is survived by her husband Jim, sons Matthew and Michael, and a large extended family.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 9th at 11:00 am, at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, followed by a celebration of life in the church hall. An online guest-book can be found at marlattfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kidney Cancer Association.

Wendy left a final message for family and friends: "Love, hope, and give of yourself."

Jim, I. Just found out. I am so sorry. Wendy and I often lost contact with one another for periods of time, but when we saw each other, it was like two close friends who never lost contact! We always said we both "grew up" at Boeing together. We were both 24 years old. We both graduated from Central. And we both loved animals! I miss you, my friend. Enjoy heaven.

I went to junior high and high school with Wendy. My husband and I both knew her from her position at Boeing in Human Relations. She was a wonderful woman and she will be missed.

My condolences to Wendy's family, a tragic loss of a wonderful person. Wendy and I worked together at The Boeing Company and it was nice getting to know her over the years. She will be missed.

Rest in Peace Wendy. We'll meet again someday.
Jim, Matt, & Mike - Our thoughts and prayers are with you. The last message I received from Wendy she was peaceful but worried. Worried not about herself, but about "my boys". May God, good family, good friends, and good memories comfort you, her boys.
Love,
Dan & Kim Wankowski

I am sorry for your loss. I was shocked and saddened to see the obituary in the Seattle Times. I worked with Wendy at Boeing in the late 80s and early 90s, and saw her on and off after that. Wendy was a very nice person, and a great person to work with, too.

I am sorry for your loss. I did not know Wendy, but I graduated with her brother, Steve. She sounded like a very giving and lovely soul and those who knew and loved her were blessed by having her in their lives. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know your wife and mother. I was looking at another person's obituary when I noticed Wendy and I have the same birthday, Feb.8, 1955. I felt something special about her just looking at her picture. I will think of her on our birthday even tho I did not know her. Life goes on in memories. My heart goes out to you.
