My dear Sara Louise, your family, and extended family: Quite by chance, I saw the notice of your beloved grandmother's passing. Heartfelt condolences go out to each of you. Though I only ever saw your grandmother in passing, I know she was a class and elegant lady. And I know your very high regard and respect for her. Cherish the memories, dear girl. And perhaps when I return from my trip in a week or so, we can share some poignant moments from this week of celebration of her special life. My love to you, dear one. UM

Memories of Winnie. They are my earliest ones as my mother, Mirth Hornschuch, went to high school with her and talked of her all the time. I first remember going swimming at a young age at Winnie's house with my brother and a friend. It seemed to me that you must be rich to own a swimming pool. I didn't even realize the first time that it was not a heated one. The water seemed warm to me. But my real awe was that Winnie had horses. Eventually when I got my own, I named it after one that I'd 'met' at Winnie's, Kheeta a terrible misspelling of a Spanish word, most likely. When I was about 15 my friend and I got to leave our horses in Winnie and Ken's pasture so we could ride in Bridle Trails, several days in a row. What a thrill. Mom and I also came out to pick wild blackberries and apples and it seemed that we were going into the country whenever we visited.
My last visit was last year when I, now 60, brought my parents, Mac, 93 and Mirth, 95 for a last visit with Winnie and Ken. Winnie will not be forgotten by the many people she touched with her humor, sparkling eyes and hospitality.
