Edward Joseph Corrigan

July 31 1920 – August 4, 2017

Born July 31, 1920 in Ballytoole, County Wicklow, Ireland. He was the last survivor of seven siblings. Ed left Ireland for greater opportunity, landing in Boston in 1948. He spent 4 years as a bartender in New York. After witnessing a gangland shooting in his bar, he thought it best to leave town and made his way to "sunny" San Francisco in 1952 where he lived in a boarding house in the Haight for Irish immigrants. He made many friends there that he kept throughout his life.

Ed met Charlotte at a Halloween dance, they were married at Mission Dolores and settled in South San Francisco. Their neighborhood was a village of sorts; alive with kids, picnics, card games, and the annual crab cioppino feed.

Ed worked as a gas crew foreman for PG&E for 32 years. In retirement he enjoyed fishing, travel, golf, and tennis. He led a simple and humble life of service. He was the ever-helpful friend and neighbor and an active parishioner of St Veronica's Church for 62 years. Well into his 90s he could be found most days in his garden where he raised orchids and grew bumper crops of tomatoes, apples, and beans; a self taught master gardener.

Survived by his wife of 63 years Charlotte, their children Mary (Michele), Kathleen (Rich), and Kevin (Fran), and his beloved granddaughter Grace. Endeared by many nieces and nephews.


Friends may visit between 6-8pm, Thurs., Aug. 10th, Garden Chapel, 885 El Camino Real, So.SF where a Vigil Service will be offered at 7pm. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Fri., Aug. 11th 10am St. Veronica Church, 434 Alida Way, So. SF.
