Gregory O'Keeffe Obituary
June 10, 1947-July 7, 2014
Gregory Preston O'Keeffe, 67, third generation San Franciscan, beloved husband of Norma C. O'Keeffe, devoted father of Daniel J. O'Keeffe (Amanda Botelho) and Katherine O'Keeffe-Schmaltz, brother of Sister Mary Gemma O'Keeffe, RSM, father-in-law of Ryan C. Schmaltz, passed away peacefully July 7, 2014 in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.Greg was born to the late William J. O'Keeffe and Noreene G. O'Keeffe on June 10, 1947. He graduated from St. Stephen's Catholic School in '61, Saint Ignatius Prep. Class of '65, University of San Francisco, Class of '69, and University of San Francisco Law School, Class of '72. Greg practiced law for 42 years at his family firm of O'Keeffe & O'Keeffe. He was a member of the Olympic Club, Kiwanis, Rotary, Native Sons of the Golden West, and the Hibernia Newman Club.
Greg will be remembered and cherished for his kindness, good nature and genuine interest in his family and friends.
He enjoyed working hard, spending time with his family in both Lake Tahoe and Hawaii, and tinkering with automobiles. He enjoyed life to the fullest, being an avid cyclist, hiker and car enthusiast. Memories of Greg's personality, character, and adventures will provide endless laughs, lessons and loving tears.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday, July 17 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 451 Eucalyptus Dr. SF. Those who wish to remember Greg in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the American Cancer Society.

We signed the guest book as soon as we learned of Greg's untimely passing but because it doesn't now seem to appear we want his family to know that we shall miss Greg very much. He was our attorney for many years, always providing us with just what we needed, and always with grace, charm and wisdom.

I knew Greg over the years as an able practitioner, and had several cases wherein we were representing opposing parties. Overall, even in the toughest case, Greg was professional, straigtforward, honest and a gentleman always. I would oftentimes see him and visit while having lunch at Manor Restaurant in West Portal. I saw him last within it seems less than 8 weeks, yet he never mentioned his health problems. A good man for sure, my best to his family

Dear Norma, Gema and Family,
I was so sorry to hear Greg's passing. I knew he'd been ill but I was not prepared for this to come so fast, it is difficult to accept. I am so sorry I cannot be there for his service but please know I am thinking of you all and am sending my prayers for Greg and for all of you. Greg was so kind to me when Dad passed. When people refer to attorneys as "counselors", they are referring to Greg O'Keeffe. He was an astute listener and an experienced and sensitive advisor. I had the privilege of working on several very sensitive business matters with Greg over the years and my respect for him and his abilities was extraordinary. I met Greg when he joined The Native Sons of the Golden West in the early 80's.
Being an officer of South Parlor#157 I encouraged our new members to be active in the dinners & events we had throughout the year,which he did.
Soon after he went through the chairs of our office(which takes 3yrs.)& became president and did a fine job.
From myself & all Native Sons throughout this fine state,we thank you & be welcomed to our final Parlor on high.
