Iris Baneth Obituary

Iris Gayle Jameson Baneth 74, Peninsula resident for 50 years, passed from this life Tuesday morning July 7th at home after a series of illnesses. Born in Covington, Kentucky, she attended Villa Madonna College as the first person to attend college from her family, after graduating from Holmes High School. She married Philip Baneth on February 14, 1959 in Reno after leaving National Airlines as an international flight attendant based in Miami, FL, and its luxury routes to Cuba, to join her husband serving at Letterman Army Hospital at the SF Presidio to raise three college-educated children. Gayle was a founding board member of Baneth's Pharmacy, Inc. that provided first-class health services to the less fortunate. She had a successful stint as a real estate agent/home renovator, and had ownership in thoroughbred racehorses, including "Gayle's Gala" and "Gale in the Vale." Gayle was a woman of strong Christian faith and was a proud benefactor of the First Baptist Church in Menlo Park, where her children were baptized. She was a hard-working member of the Peninsula Volunteers, Little House for Seniors, City of Hope, March of Dimes, Children's Health Council, and Menlo School. Survived by husband of 50 years, Philip Baneth, Atherton/Redwood Shores; son and daughter-in-law, Robin Baneth and Lisa Ferrando, Raleigh, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Linette Baneth, Salt Lake City, UT; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Matt Maley, Princeton Junction, NJ; her six grandchildren, Sofia, Julian, Madeleine, Samantha; Madison, Miranda; one brother, Billy Jameson, Arkansas; niece, Skye. Robin, you were my first kiss. The back seat on the way to Circus Club for ballroom dance with the blue-haired lady. Your mom was always so entertaining. I had some friends buy your parent's house on Alameda, but they sold it.
