Janice McKay Obituary
August 16, 1947 - January 5, 2023
Janice Lynne McKay (Raabe) passed away January 5, 2023 of pancreatic cancer. She was 75.
Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack McKay; parents Ernie and Kathleen Raabe and sister and brother-in-law Beverley and Benny Harrington.
Jan attended school at St. Emydius and Star of the Sea Academy. She was one of the first female officers in the SFPD and retired after 30 years of service as an Inspector.
Jan loved to travel and never turned down a game of pedro with friends. She was a longtime member of The Elks, The Moose Lodge and The Eagles.
She is survived by her loving sister, Kathleen Burke; stepdaughter Laura Neufeld; grandchildren Derek Neufeld, Rachel Brown (Nick), and great-grandson Austin Brown; also her loving nephews and nieces, Derek Taaning (Sabrina), Renee Jean (Shannon), Devin Burke, Tori Burke, Skylar Jean, Ethan Jean and Devon McCain and numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society.
Friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, January 18th from 5pm to 8pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave. in Daly City where a Vigil will begin at 6pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 19th at 10:30am at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Ave. in San Francisco. Jan will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

Condolences to family and friends. Jan did a tour as the rebooking inspector at SFDA where she assisted me. She was very professional and pleasant and got me what I needed. She got the job done and didn't complain. May you rest in peace Jan until we meet again.

I worked with Jan in personnel and she rode with me on her first night out of the academy at Taraval Station. She was a great person I always enjoyed interacting with her. I used to visit with Jan and Jack in the parking lot at Candlestick Park before the 49er games. I was in charge of the reserve officers and I got there early in order to assign them jobs prior to the game. I will keep her and her family in my thoughts and I'm very sorry for their loss.

Jan was my background investigator when I joined the department. I only knew her briefly during that process. Our careers did not cross paths again afterwards. Jan gave me some great "life coach" advice that I never forgot. Her wisdom and her words left a lifelong impression on me. God bless you Jan. Sending lots of love and prayers to the family.

I remember Jan, I worked with her in Juvenile and on her first night out of the academy in the Taraval. She was a very nice person and I always enjoyed talking with her.
I also remember Jack and her attending the 49'er games at Candlestick Park. For a while I was in charge of the reserves and got to the stadium early, so the 3 of us would visit before the game. I of course haven't seen her since I am now living in southern California.

I´ve always admired Jan. She was of solid character, very kind and fun to be around. The news of her passing saddens me greatly. Jan was a rare jewel. Rest in peace great lady. I am grateful for having known you. You were a good role model.
