John Rinaldi Obituary

John Salvatore Rinaldi

June 22, 1919 – October 22, 2014

Entered into rest peacefully on October 22 at the age of 95 years. A native of San Francisco, John was born in North Beach to Francesco and Josephine Rinaldi. Preceded in death by his parents, a sister Geraldine Fazzio, brother Franklin, and the love of his life, wife Josephine, with whom John shall be interred at Napa, California on their anniversary date of December 18.
John graduated from Galileo High School and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941, serving principally in Alaska where he achieved the rank of First Sergeant. Following WWII, he worked as a manager for several businesses in San Francisco, later becoming a member of the Teamster's Warehousing Union. John greatly enjoyed reading about and studying the stock market. He was a successful investor, able to see his three sons through St. Ignatius High School and college and to retire at the age of 55, moving with Josephine to a new home in the Napa Valley. After his wife died in 2001, John moved to Mountain View to be closer to family and where he continued with his membership in the Italian Catholic Federation, later joining the Amici D'Oro luncheon club, the Monte Cristo Club of San Francisco and the Sons of Sicily of San Jose.
He is survived by his three sons, John (Kathleen), Tom (Beverly) and Charles (Jenny). He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and further survived by his brother in law Steve Santamaria, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A special thank you for the care provided this past year by the staff at Sunrise Senior Living of Sunnyvale, Ca.
A celebration of his great life will be held at a later date.

I was so sad to learn of John's passing. We would exchange friendly hellos as he passed my house on his way to his son's for dinner each evening when he was still living in Sunset Estates… and he always made sure I received some of the oranges he helped to harvest around the park and distribute. He was a fine, kind and gentle man and I will miss his presence in this life. My deepest sympathies to his family.

We were both deeply saddened to hear that John passed away and send our sincere love and condolences to the entire Rinaldi family. We felt very blessed to be welcomed so lovingly into John and Josephine's family and to have them become our God parents. We know they will soon be together again in God's garden. God Bless them both!
